Ok lets say i use up 50% of my physical memory at default as in no gaming, or no heavy applications at the moment (just p2p, mesaging systems, desktop widgets, and a few background programs that are always running) Should i buy more RAM or not run this many applications at default-as in end all the uneccasary applications? ( i have 1 gig ) I know i would be the one trying to answer this kind of question but im lost, dont know which to chose, maybe 512 MB or 1 gig more its killing me.

I don't think you really do need more than a gig really, but if you're going to upgrade you can buy a 1g pc3200 corsair value ram stick for 80 dollars at newegg.com, pretty cheap if you ask me. I have 2 gigs, but I think i could run things fine with just 1g, but it couldn't hurt to upgrade for future things such as Oblivion coming out next year

1gb is more than enough for your purpose. You won't notice a fps difference with more ram, just slightly lower loading times when starting a game/program (windows itself won't start faster though). As long as you don't play EQ2 while editing big files in photoshop or using cache-eating video editing software, I wouldn't buy more ram at all ^^
I just updated myne to 1280 mb RAM...and it runs games that req 512 better,of corse, and its enough

I say go for 1gig. Don't do what stupid people are doing and getting 2gigs. (stupid!)
Why? Personal Computers cannot run that fast...the only reason you would need 2gigs is to prepare for the future.
One gig is good enough till the new string of gaming comes along.
While your at it, might as well see about updating your video card. That would increase things as well.

my video card will be good for the next couple of years so no need for that and i already have 1 gig but that 1 gig is running at 50% constantly with no heavy apps running so i was just thinking
well i guess i stay at 1 gig

Maybe I'm wrong but for me p2p software has always eaten alot of RAM... but I have 1gb of RAM and use like 16% at most times (no background applications)

2gb doesnt really make a difference to anything, at the moment at least. Even if you've got 2 processors and 4x512 ddrs, theres still no use for that much ram. Bit of a waste of money at the moment. P2P shits all over your RAM. Slows things down quite a bit.
ya i love the corsair ram i have 2 gigs of it and the built in heat sinks are the best.
they are stable produce little heat and very high performance
