FEDev question + poll

SuldaSulda Member Posts: 24

I know this could sound dumb, but I looked and searched and couldnt find any info.

The FE FAQ says that pricing hasn't yet been determined for "The initial package".  To me that states that there will of course be expansions and patches, but what I'm most concerned about is the montly cost.  I would love to see an MMORPG that doesn't charge money to play, but that's just wishful thinking these days.  There's too much money in it to not charge.  It also keeps money coming in to the people who maintain and run the game.  However willing I may be to pay a monthly fee, I certainly don't want to pay an exorbant amount.  I will proabaly already have to pay 50 bucks for the game itself, so adding another 20 bucks a month on top of that is just plain silly.  SOE had me borderline on just 15 a month.  While 15 isnt much, if you play for a long time such as myself, over the course of a year you're paying 180 bucks for a video game, plus the cost of your net connection on top of that.  While I'm certainly not trying to argue for a free online game (I am in touch with economic reality) I am very curious to get an answer from someone in the know of at LEAST a round about number we COULD be looking at.  I understand things change and you may not even have the numbers at hand...  but any info would be appreciated.  Do you have a target price already in mind?

I've always preferred paying quarterly. I think 15/month is a lot for an online game, though, but I guess they're only going to get more expensive over time.

I've opted for "quarterly", because Icarus Studions seem to know what they are doing. So I would not mind paying three months in advance. A vote of confidence I do not extend to all publishers ::::39::
In terms of max. price, I think 35 Euros per three months would be acceptable to me. That would mean an anverage of 11.66/month.

Im with Rabid I want to have the option to pay a few months in advance for a lower price... I would probably pay up to around $20 maximum but would not be very happy about it at all. Id be content around 15 but since i am still a student i would like it to be around 10 to be very happy with it. (not the content the pricing)

Also alot of my friends seem to be thrown off by the monthly pricing until they try the game i say that the devs should definatly do some play for a few days free but that char is only a temp unless you start playing imediatly deal... just my two cents

As much as I rant and rave about World of Warcraft, one thing I am comfortable with is their pricing.

    $14.99 US, 1 month
    $41.97 US, 3 months ( $13.99 monthly )
    $77.94 US, 6 months ( $12.99 monthly )
    $143.88 US, 12 months ( $ 11.99 monthly )

However, reguardless on how much we are eventually slugged a month I want to SEE something of our monthly fee. Nothing annoys me more than to see a game like WoW for months on end do NOTHING with their game, despite us players throwing multi-millions of dollars, with on-line fees, at the game per month.

I voted for monthly, since if it is entirely crap ( speaking in general about any MMPORG ), I prefer to be able to cancel my subscription and incur a minimum charge rather than lose a prepaid amount. That is if they do not have a reimbursement policy for the unused time. I am not sure of any online games that have the reimbursement of fees prepaid, usually your account stays active until the prepaid period ends.

But, if it proves to be a great game ( speaking in general about any MMPORG ), I like to pay  the quarterly rates. image

Yes, too much detail, I know hehe

Pricing becomes an issue I would think when looking at your player base.  A lot of student (college or lower) play the game and affording more than $15/mo will become taxing on them, especially when most people have 1 or more accounts.

I believe if the price is not the norm, they would eventually lose money in the long run because there will not be as many "accounts" active, vs. actual players.

If the game will be as good asI hope it will be, I wouldn't mind 20/month... If the game gets me motivated I'll stick around for years!

I'll pay quarterly for the minimal discount that it usually brings.

Personally I don't mind quarterly or semi-annually for lower prices.
