    In the game industry you WILL get what you pay for. If a game is free there is a reason why, because nobody in their right mind would pay for it. If there was a MMO like WoW or EQ2 why would they give it away for FREE when WoW is making millions???

    Anarchy Online ...an older MMo and it shows in the graphics , plus you will only get the basic game for free , still may be the game with the best character development. Dont go join the game expecting handouts from the experianced players though...while the community is great there, AO is not the game for the average person, its extensive character development can be daunting to folks who cant do things for themselves.

    I never played it but I have played a lot of the free games out right now and the open betas and most of them suck. I just checked Rakion's forums and it seems to be riddled with problems, similar problems that the other free mmos have. Whatever I don't play free mmos anymore cause its a waste of time now.

    Everquest now has a completely free version of their game, Escape to Norrath.

    Anarchy Online also has a free version.

    Guild Wars doesn't have a monthly but does have an intial cost to purchase, about $50.

    Also Minions of Mirth has no monthly fee and less of an intial cost to purchase, $25.

    There is a typo in the
    Escape to Norrath link and it's not really a free version of the game. It's just a free trial to level 10. To play past that, you'll have to pay a monthly sub.

    Fixed typo.

    Bah, misread the EQ info. You are right it is completely free up to level 10. At that point you can either not advance your character past level 10 or pay the monthly fee and have him transfer to a regular server and continue the advancement.

    You might find a lot of similarities between to WoW and EQ in Runescape.

    Runescape has many people paying for it...

    I disagree to you get what you pay for...as we all know theres tons of free games out there, with alot of people playing them, and they love them. They could pay for a game but they like the free ones, so saying a free game is automatically bad, is bogus.

    May I reccomend Silk Road, just look it up with the search function. Completely free, and pretty damn fun if I may say so. Similar to EQ.

    Well, ain't exactly any games that are free and in the same scale of WoW lol...no one'd be so stupid and do such a thing...

    Want a free MMORPG that's tiny and free though...click my signature or this link. If you're a GFX whore though, then don't bother. Only looking for people who know the meaning of gameplay and actually know how to properly judge a game.

    EDIT - oh, that's pretty stupid...forced to have this site's URL as well?

    Well in my opinion, theres no such thing as a free mmorpg with high quality.

    And if there is one to exist, keep in mind it's temporarly free.

    Now I was confused why online MUDS were mostly free or something like that.
