Not read it all but are blizzard happy with them maknig money off Starcraft ?
Yeah they are fine with it, only at early stages it was named world of starcraft so blizz asked to change it. They are even supporting best arcade games by giving exposure on their main site and giving devs some minor rewards.

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
At first Blizzard wasn't to happy about it, but because you need the stand alone SC2 disk in order to play it, blizzard started seeing $$$ and ok'd the project. Blizzard even gave them their own server to work off of.
This is defiantly a mmo, they have 3vs3 arena's, and even have a built in DPS meter in the bottom right.

And people think Blizzard have lost touch with players, the SC2 arcade (I don’t check it out as much as I should) is proof Blizzard is all about keeping their games alive through giving players awesome tools. You never know the next DotA(MOBA) craze could be born in SC2 just as it was in WC3.
I know, right? I'm pretty sure he's being sarcastic
It's a mod people...
And a pretty amazing one at that.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
*sigh*
Blizzard did not want them using the name "World of Starcraft". That's it. They weren't against the idea, the execution or anything else. They just didn't want someone glomming off of, or creating confusion around one of their well known properties. The project got to continue because it changed its name. Given that they've sold millions of copies of the game, the number of copies sold because of this mod would be invisible. Giving them a server would just be a nice thing to do, and good PR. Plus, you never know what might develop from mods. Like DOTA, or DOTA 2. And so on.

Doh! Actually followed the link. There was a "World of Starcraft" that had to change its name, maybe it's by the same guys, I don't know. The only reason I could see Blizzard stopping this project is because you're not supposed to make money off of Blizzard's properties. The $80k dev costs might be consisted "making money". Maybe. $80k is really cheap for game development. Even for a well developed mod.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
This looks amazing and honestly I'm surprised Blizzard is allowing this.
I thought for sure Titan was a fancy name for "Starcraft Universe: Online" or something along those lines.
Does it matter, it is just a label. And the gameplay is as "massive" as many instance dungeons & raids in other MMOs.
With the forums now a days and people thinking 10 people = massive I wasn't sure if this was sarcasm at first, but it has to be lol
Actually it does matter, because if its not an MMO it shouldn't be discussed in the MMO forum, and rather in the general gaming forum. Thanks.
Furthermore, instances are not massive. You have had this explained to you many times over, but its massively multiplayer online games. If you are not playing with a massive amount of people in the same instance/world/anything at the exact same time and are unable to interact with those people then it is not an MMO. LoL is not an MMO. Get over it. Move on.
Last I played SC2 you could do 4v4, so a 3v3 arena is a mmo?
Non-MMOs are discussed here daily. LoL, WoT, .....
And many MMOs focus on non-massive gameplay. STO, DDO, NWO, Marvel Heroes .. even WOW .. all have huge amount of non-massive gameplay. In fact, some of them has very little, or no massive gameplay.
Take WoW pve content. Most time is in 5-man dungeon, or raids, non-massive. And we talk about that all the day.
Time has changed. MMOs are no longer massive all the time, and if you cannot accept that, it is not my problem.
You don't get to just brush it off by saying the times have changed; it's the marketing that has changed. The studios that are calling these non-MMOs MMOs are doing so in an effort to cash in on the genres large population. I don't buy bullshit like that, but if it's something you cannot see, it is not my problem.
