Any information about PvP?

caremuchlesscaremuchless Member Posts: 603

Simple question, is their any information about PvP whatsoever.

I know some are for it, some are against it and MOST will be happy with separate servers.

I just wanted to know if anyone had read anything whatsoever about PvP in Everquest Next

Thanks in advance

i just hope there is open world pvp server, or some kind of cyrodill giant area where we fight over castles and lands, with some elements of pve in there like what ESO is doing

Nothing as of yet. I am sure they will have some form of it but so far the absence of information leads one to wonder if they consider it a selling point relevant to the core features of the product they are looking to sell us. Makes me think "tack on" automagically.

The legacy players lost their minds over stuff like horizontal progression, the art style and limited hotbars. SOE made the right decision by withholding the PVP stuff at SOE Live. The reveal will rock people to the core. =)

I think an eve like system would also work doesnt have to be seperate servers have it be the farther you venture into the wilderness the less security against pvp there is

Nope nothing (not even mentioned during the reveal).

Just alot of folks making wild guesses around here one way or another based on very little if any information.

I'm pretty sure in the event they explicitly said they aren't addressing PVP yet. Which suggests they either haven't thought about it or they're afraid of upsetting the legacy players. But Georgeson said something like 'how can we have a destructible world and not talk about PVP?' and in an interview said a couple of people on the team had some amazing ideas - he got really excited when he mentioned it. So yeah. They know what they want to do. They just didn't want to get murdered at SOE Live.

They aren't addressing PvP is exactly what I mean by not mentioning it. He asked if there was any information and the answer is NO, nothing mentioned about any PvP system during the reveal.

They have not discussed a system, what if anything is going to happen with PvP, arena only, PvP server only, FFA PvP....nothing at all that is definitive.

As I said people like you (on the PvP side) and others (not on the PvP side) have been assuming lots based on very little if any information. I personally think they are going to have different servers, Pve and PvP and everyone will be happy...but that is based on  nothing other than my opinion and SOE passed history and not based on anything they have said abotu EQNext because frankly they have said nothing of relevance about it.

To say anything has been said one way or another would just be a flat out lie and disingenuous

Okay, I see what you mean now. I think this comes down to a personality thing. Most people prefer concrete facts and present realities, while others - like me - prefer to speculate and guess what the future will be like based on scraps of ambiguous information. Just to give you fair warning - that's how I roll and I'm not going to stop. ;)

BTW, small but important clarification. I'm not "on the PvP side". I'm on the PvPvE side. I believe PvE has its place and can be fun...  I just want PvP with it.

I'm remaining hopeful that they have something for us other than PVE and PVP servers.

Not because I'm looking to gank people either, but because if they did, it'd be two extremes where I'd then just be playing on the PVE server because the PVP one would just be the usual gank festival.

I'd rather PVP have a place in the game that enhances the game, rather than takes it over.   Like pvp in the region of a rallying call or something in a fight to destroy/build a town.   I think they've said there wont necessarily be stuff like that, but something more in that neighborhood.      That's something PVE players could avoid if they want, but also participate in and maybe even enjoy.

Then of course, in areas where there wasn't any conflict requiring it, PVP would just be disabled.

My hope is that they have a zone where there is Open PVP.  Somethign akin to the RvR areas in WHO.  It might also ahve many Landmark features for building and protecting keep-like structures.  Perhaps even a huge underground pvp dungeon.  I imagine they will also have Warfronts for some quick pvp.  A 2h 25v25 mini game- with a similar lay out to a GW2 WvW area would be a promising addition.

Thank you for the non speculation and speculation. Both are appreciated.

Looks like I am going to have to wait and see.

I'll say this, if the games proves to be as good as many feel it is, I might not play just because I don't want to get addicted to the crack

They are building an MMO version of LoL

Expect the PvP to be an expression of that ideal. (like it or not, this is the word)

Yes thinlizzy that sounds about right.

I truly hope this does not occur.  I really did  not enjoy  a separate area for OW PvP took away from the game imo.  I am not one for zerg fests gets old and boring.  The random encounters are much more stimulating and have a higher level of immersion.
