Dark and Light: SoG Subscriptions

Well, today, it would seem, is the day for Dark and Light. Today is the day that Settlers of Ganareth opens the doors it its registration. To clear up any confusion, the developers have released the following statement:

SETTLERS OF GANARETH SUBSCRIPTIONS by Elhavius

Opening of the registration for Settlers of Ganareth is imminent and we are sure everyone is counting the days until the Dark and Light website’s resilience will be once again tested.

In order to give everyone a fair chance, the Dark and Light forum will be closed during the subscription period. During this time the IRC channel on irc.ircube.org : #darkandlight will remain open.

On December 8th 2005 you will find the link to the subscription page on the Dark and Light homepage. Registration will begin at 6PM (18h) UTC the same day. Please make sure the registration page is working by clicking here.

ATTENTION:

You must be a fully registered member of the Dark and Light community in order to subscribe to Settlers of Ganareth: As you will not be able to become a member once the forum closes at 2pm GMT/UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on the day of subscription, please be sure your account is fully set up before that time. In order to validate your subscription to Settlers of Ganareth, we will need a valid e-mail address, so please check and re-check that the address in your profile is up to date and functional : click here to check.

    I don't know... seems a little off to me that their shutting down the forums in order to give everyone a fair chance at getting keys ? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, maybe it's a bandwidth thing ?

    Either way, I'm sure lots of people are going to be trying to get one, I'm not one of them but I certainly wish everyone the best of luck.

    Actually they were full less then one minute in, according to my friends that didn't get in. I hit enter exactly at 1pm, and got in.

    I can't believe that it sold out, so to speak, so fast. I  tried an hour before 6:00 GMT (12:00 PM eastern standard time) and it wouldnt let anyone register, then at 1:02 PM it said it was full already? Wow, its hard to believe that 10,000 people got in that fast. I have my pioneer subscription already so I was just trying for my friends, but WOW! Anyway, WHERE the hell do we download the game at now, anyone know? From what I have read there is supose to be a link for it on the main web-page, but its not there that I can see.

    I cant belevie it Ive been waiting for this for months checking every day the web site. I even checked 6 hours ago before AI went to work and now its laready closed? I registerd and re-registers already now twice?

    screw this game for now I guess.

    When wow had their beta test it took a few days to fill up the 10000 spots. Seems to me there must be some people who exploit and are going to ebay these or something.

    Imho they will let more people in as soon as the first wave is leveled a bit

    This "story" is a joke, and so is Farlan.

    There were numerous posts this morning on their forums about the servers not actually being available until December 13th. However, the AD mods locked those threads saying they were rumors and they would not respond to rumors.

    As the crowds became more vocal, and the lynch mobs gathered, <poof> the forums went down. 3 full hours before the SOG registration.

    Then, the registration page for SoG says the servers will be up on the 13th, after specifically telling all the Pioneer preorders that "SoG begins on December 8th".

    Scam of the Year for Farlan and AD.

    And since none of the pioneers have actually logged into SoG yet, they can in Farlan's own words ask for a refund on the Pioneer offer.

    What a way to cut your own throat!

    I think they didnt count the 8900 pre-orders into those 10 000 so only around 1100 spots where available to other people. Only logical reason since as you say it took days for WoW to fill up 10 000 spots despite having a gigantic hype compared to D&L.

    Im a bit confused here.. is it over? Was that a free SOG subscription??? Is there gonna be another free Beta?

    For now it's over, but rest assure there will be more account available soon enough.

    And for those wondering, this is my guess after reading alot of other sites (including DnL) forums, that there is 10k+ the pioneer ppl, so aprox 19k ppl should be able to play on Dec 13th.

    P.S Yes SoG is free, it's a stand alone beta version of DnL if I got everything right

    SoG is more of a Pre-release version of DnL. It takes place in the year 8881, which is before the time-line of DnL (see the lore on the DnL site). Only the Dark, Light, and Al Drifa zones will be available. There is no crafting, no taming, no private housing and levels are limited to 50 instead of 100.

    In other words, DnL is done yet, so we get to play in a limited world that has what they have finished so far.

    Ah Furrbawl, Alchamic Dreams, the company that runs the forums and the registration announced the day before that they would close the forums hours before registration commenced in order to prevent server lag.

    Having said that I think everyone is agreed that Farlan should have announced the SoG delay much sooner.

    so basically for over 6 years of development they have none of their promised features to show, yet some people actually believe they will be ready in.. 5 months? Hm..

    Well, I really wish them to succeed but maybe what they want to tell us is that they will be ready to go bankrupt in 5 months?
