Well, there are about 18000 people on the main server at any given time who would say so(about 19,000 users total on the server, and probably at least a decent amount are trials).
Like all MMO games, it is entirely your call whether you like the game enough to pay for it.
I'd say its worth subscribing. Entirely depends on what you are looking for in a game. The trial is well worth it prior to subscribing. Get on and ask a ton of questions in the newb chanel. Its not uncommon that the old hats of the game have an ocasional alt in there that can provide w a wealth of knowledge if you ask the right questions. 14 days is ample to get a good tast of the game. The frigate run is what I would call your first 14 days... its chalanging to get a decent frigate and being newbish allows you to see what you are looking to do with the game. Generaly breaks down into traders, miners, smuglers, pirates "Rats", pvp, npc hunter, builder, researcher ect. The bottom line in whatever course you choose to take will always be destroying others. Just seems to turn out that way with any character I've developped so heed that, combatant may not be your prefered route however it is well advised. Not to mention you can make plenty of money at it.
Biggest downside to the game is also its strongest plus. You gain skills in real time. The advantage is that you dont have to be a online addict to progress, the down side is that if you are, wealth and experience is likley what you will aquire, not nessiscarily the skill to take out weekend wariors. Makes for a relatively even playing field. Only other advise, when new get into a large Corp. Preferable with people in your time zone and at least some people you like. Dont ask to many questions, visit the corp forums and read. Often the question your about to ask was just answered minutes ago if you were paying attention. Nothing new to online gaming there
Anyhow, fly fast, stealthy, well armed or smart... always fly safe.

From what I've seen, about 10% of the online people are trial accounts, and some of those are just alt accounts.
We hit around 19500 today, which may not seem like a lot, but remember, this is all on a *single* server.
im paying for 2 accounts for over a year and i have no intensions to stop
