Having problems downloading

SendenSenden Member UncommonPosts: 602
Never had problems downloading the closed beta version but annoyingly I keep getting an error mid download and have to start downloading again.

Does anyone have any suggestions to try outside of the obvious stuff like check drivers etc? Is there any alternative methods for downloading the files?

I just have my connection crash on heavy downloads and the launcher doesn't support re-downloading, it seems.

I doubt it's checking the hard drive because it often crashes mid-checking and it states the download speed every time.

Not really sure what to do besides just download it somewhere else and copy it over.

Yeah its really annoying that it doesnt allow pausing the download and forces you to redownload it all over again. Problem is finding somewhere else to download it though.. I guess we will have to hope someone does a legit torrent of it

It seems to be that way.. maybe because I can never get too far along but there isn't any pause button or anything and it keeps on making me redownload the data all over again. I'm pretty sure it was different with the closed beta client too which was strange.

I havnt had my downloader crash yet but i have purposely cancelled it once to do something else. When i restarted it continued from where it was before. The green progress bar will start from the beginning but if you look at xxxxx mb / xxxxx mb it should show a lower value. To start it was out of 7448 mb or something around that number. When i restarted it was out of 3048 mb

Seems to work fine for me

Some people said otherwise, but I don't see how.

I just had it go up to 2Gb or so on a different comp, but then it crashed again (said there's an error) and now it's back from the beginning and 90 minutes.

I don't see how this is supporting re-downloading.

I am hoping that someone will get out a torrent at some point so we can use peer-to-peer.

Considering it downloads file by file it would be a bit odd for it NOT to support pausing. It's likely as another poster said; the progress bar starts from 0 again but the total to download will be smaller (as you'll have already downloaded a bunch of files).

Is the patcher peer to peer or a direct download form SE's servers? It's just when i patched it earlier it downloaded the entire 7.5gb in like 25 mins and I NEVER normally get speeds like that.

If that works, I LOVE YOU. If it contains a virus, I'm cursing you children.  Seems legit though .

My download did error out (could have easily been my shaky ISP rather than anything to do with S/E)...

But I can confirm that my Launcher did ~not~ start over from the beginning, it retained what it had downloaded earlier.

Just one data point, not disconfirming what others have said about it starting over.

From what I gathered, the download consists of 4 separate files. THOSE files do get preserved if you get a hold of one of them.

I didn't, so far. I couldn't even download file a. It doesn't support pausing for the files themselves, at least, I don't see it. The total number of MB is always the same - 7k.

I am currently getting the fabled [11006][20641][20643] error.

    I believe it's direct, unfortunately.

I really hope someone gets a bunch of torrents out.

It's basically a different system of downloading.

Most of the time you download directly from a website.

Torrents work by downloading bits and pieces from lots and lots of users. They're also often called P2P (peer-to-peer).

Because of this, torrents work when the main website goes down, and they're much more stable in terms of redownloading. There are lots of torrent clients out there, all you need is one of those and then you just download the .torrent file and run it with that program.

Then, you can download the file, and upload it so that others like you can download it from you.

What the launcher/patcher for phase 4 does is download several large data packages into the FFXIV Patches folder in "My Documents" before moving/extracting them to the installation directory upon completion.  If the download is disrupted for one of these packages it remains in the "My Documents" folder, but when you restart the downloading process the launcher--for some absurd reason--actually deletes the package file before initializing the download.  WTF!

Anyhow, thank you so very much for the torrent link, seems that the playerbase is smarter than SE's programmers.
