What I have been trying to remember about the combat...it hit me!!

The artistic style of the characters and movements and combat reminded me of another game.

I couldn't remember the name until today.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Now if the combat is as crazy good as Kingdoms of Amalur, but made for PC first....this would truly be groundbreaking for a full mmo.

My level of interest in EQ Next just went up another few notches with this revelation. :)

about it and you will see what I mean and the easy comparison.

You can fast forward past his goofy beginning obviously, but the remaining portions is a good watch.

Check this video for some more fighting moves from caster and fighter styles. Once again looks similar to some of the in game reveal from the fighting we saw in EQ Next. Thoughts?

OK so after watching that. I hope you are right. The art style in that game is awesome, and the fighting system seems really fun and interactive. Facing, timing, and diversity of actions make that combat look great to me.

I think it might have that sort of flavor but a bit more in depth.

If that was all abilities for one build, the character in Reckoning displayed more abilities in use than is possible with 8 buttons though.

If EQN does some sort of dynamic combinations such as having an effect that happens when weapon 2 and weapon 4 are used, or different versions of the same attack that happen based on the facing or proximity, then it might be as varied as the game shown in the video.

I don't think it will use a combo system like KoA, but happy to be pleasantly surprised if they do.

Such a shame KoA didn't meet its sales targets, it was a great game and deserved more attention. The MMO would have been amazing. Hopefully the state that repossessed the assets will sell the IP / assets for someone else to finish.

Amalur was a very good RPG and I was eagerly awaiting the planned MMO version (it actually started as an MMO and they released the single player game to make some $$ and promote the MMO) until Curt Schilling and co. borked the financing and went under.

Among its many innovations was the excellent use of very, very few "buttons" to accomplish many more things than you would think you could do with just a few abilities that could do different things depending on how many times in a row you used it and whether or not you reacted quickly enough to special opportunity versions of the abilities.

The GW2  ability usage reminded me of Amalur in some ways... especially the same ability doing different things according to the situation (and also whether or not this was the third time in a row you used it.)

It's games like those that make me feel totally OK with a clean UI and a small number of abilities because I have seen how it can be used creatively to provide a rich and varied combat style. The industry has noticed. It's no coincidence that both, ESO and EQN are going down that same path: the system works and is BETTER than the traditional 72 skills in 6 hotbars system it's replacing.

    17:18 - 17:35 absolutely hilarious

seems it was cursed by uninspired/repetitious quest concepts

low spell/combat art count also looking exceptionally boring & unengaging
