Is it just me or when ther's actually voices in the main storyline, I can barely hear what they say. The music seems much louder than the actuall voices. Guss I need to turn up my sound everytime I get into one of those CS's..... just hope the music don't blast me outa my room...
Edit: its imposable to hear music or voices when using a Voip program like teamspeak to.... guss everygame is like that though.
Would it benefit from it in terms of experience? Yes
Well executed voice acting brings an extra dimension of life to an NPC. MMO or not there's a benefit to that.
Reading dialogue is fine from time to time, but the longer I play/read, the more my eye's glaze over and the sleepier I get. This doesn't happen when there's voice acting. I'm much more engaged in the story.
Its sounds to me like your the type of person that would rather watch the movie then read the book. The purpose of reading the book is that you the reader can add your own imagination and feelings into the script. Making the story your own. Instead you would rather opt out and let the directors vision of the script dictate how your SHOULD feel about the subject matter. THIS is what is missing from MMOs today. That personal feel that each MMOer should have about the direction they take their character and their personal story.
I think I have it figured out. If you look at some of the god awful grammar in these posts it's no wonder why people want voice acting. I do not believe these people can read very well at all because they sure can't write for shit, and the two go hand in hand. If we put two and two together you will find that most of the people complaining about reading can't read, so instead of learning to read they want some one else to read it to them.

Guss i'm one of those people to who would rather watch a movie than read a book. I literally never read an actuall book. Even all the newer final fantasy games from ffX onward has full voice overs, I hope someday ffxiv arr will follow that trend.
Although I never read a book, I've played rpg's for years and always read the text in those, guss with the way games have become lately I've become accustomed to voice acting while reading the text.

Honestly though, it really doesn't affect my game play immersion at all, but then again I grew up with Anarchy and Everquest Online when the NPC didn't yap in a certain type of voice and explain what was going on. Some players today are used to npc voice dialogue which they only listen to once anyways and spam the esc or spacebar once they have already played the game.
How come ffx, ffx-2, ffxii, ffxiii, fxiii-2, all have fully voiced CS's from beginning of game to the end, but ffxi or ffxiv arr, doesn't?
It was explained few times in this threat, did you read?
Damn people, we need to voiceover threats on those forums, fast!
Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX didn't have voice overs. Only the few you mentioned, that were less popular, but you are probably to young to remember popularity of the first titles. They put the company back on feet from crysis. You know the reason why it is called Final Fantasy right? It was supposed to be final, it turned out huge success. Maybe they figured out how pointless it is, and it doesn't influence a games success so they went back to the roots, and saved a lot of money while doing it.
No voiceover would have been fine if they didn't show silly cut scenes SHOWING the quest actors mouth moving. Just toss me the text and stop slowing the game down with pictures of a guy talking but no sounds.... That killed this one for me and as someone else said, there are plenty of other games out there that don't do that.

Considering what I like to read, nah.. I mostly read historical books, mostly ancient Rome or greece, other than that I'm a huge Howard fan, which most of his works have been translated horribly to film, even the Arny films were if going by the source material. It's a fun flick, yet hardly what I'd consider something true to the OG source.

Interesting. Though if this were truly the case you would think it would be balanced by people for whom English isn't their first language and reading a second or third language is generally easier than parsing the spoken variety.

Hmm.. after played and playing SWTOR i simply can not enjoy any other questing without voices. I love wow, will I guess ff14, ... but a lot of immersion is taken away. Gw2 at least have voiced class quests.
When I first read the title of the thread I thought you mean't the speech bubbles didn't have a sound when you activate them , i.e PSU had a loud noise for shouting , a weird bubble noise for thought bubbles and a weird woo hoo sound for another.
Well at least you have speech bubbles , SWTOR may have a huge bunch of VO but still hasn't bleedin speech bubbles. They are getting emote chairs to sit in in October though , do you have chairs ?
Cheers,

If you can't read, or can't be bothered to read, or if you for some reason are unable to read.
Then yes, the voice overs for FFXIV are limited right now, and they are adding more, perhaps you should wait until a few months after release to play it.
However.
If you CAN read, you enjoy books, you have an imagination, etc. Then please give FFXIV a shot as it has a very in depth and quality storyline.
This game will be voiced, you guys should really read whats being said to you before posting, some voices at launch more later in patches, and if reading becomes to much of a chore I feel bad for you, as for the I can't get emersion without voices I call bs voice acting has only been a standard in gaming for 5 years or so and is still not a standard in mmo's.
To whoever made the statement about Square's being loaded, they are not with the fall of FF14 and many other titles they have published and developed failing, they are near broke, if this game fails it could possibly result in the bankruptcy of the company, their profits margins last year dropped by 80% if I am recalling a certain article right, this is good thing though now the company has to ensure the standard of quality that the Square seal used stand for or else they may go belly up and I think I am right when saying many SE fans like myself do not want to see that happen maybe even more so than the Square execs.
I don't mind the lack fo voice acting, especally after seeing how terribly BAD some of the english voice actors are, the leader of gridania's VA was horrible, I'd rather it be muted insted of having to listen to that, or switch it to japanese audio like I did that kinda helps.

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

They would be fine if they would just stop making shit games, hasn't been a truly good FF game since the snes era. Sorry but pretty graphics mean nothing to me. Square focuses too much on making the game pretty and not enough on more important area's like gameplay and story. On the ps1 era I have always prefered the Tales series over FF and still do to this day, they are just better games both gameplay and story wise. I used to be a major square fan, till their games started going downhill as of the ps1 era. If square went under i'd not shed a tear, however the fact they would take enix down with them would piss me off to no end.

+1 to this. Stop mixing the genres!!!!!! Some of us want our MMOs back.

Whether filthy rich or piss-poor, implementing voice acting for every bit of dialogue would slow the development of new content a fair bit.
It's a choice to make, and this is what SE chose. It has its good sides and bad sides. Being AAA or not is irrelevant.
I would have been happy with voice overs for that long tedious intro. It was so Painful.
