Here's an example of how i was expecting/hoping EQ Next art style will be..

(BLESS MMO)

Instead we got this.

That looks like it's inspired from this.

I bet that EQN graphics will magicaly look better as the game ages than the ones for example BLESS has.

Well... no, not really.

Here is BLESS trailer also.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTm9YZsOyIE

After seeing this vid i can't agree more with the opinion that a fantasy realistic art style really looks hideous.

I mean this trailer already looks dated to me.

Mm hm... true story.

So way to go Rosie.

That's an awesome art style. The same we used back at the kindergarten.

You can always play Bless if you love the graphics so much.
  • AlleinAllein Member RarePosts: 2,139

It does look great, unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how much of that video is in-game footage or if it is all cut scenes and high quality rendered shots.

Not sure how it would be playable as an mmo on today's computers. The graphics are single player cut scene quality.

I have been an EQN defender since SOE live, but hot damn, if the graphics in Bless were in EQN, I would never need another game, that looks amazing, combat incredible, movement awesome, especially if thats not just a cgi trailer, but actual footage

    Ohh dat logic.

I'll go with the (gameplay > graphics) answer but keep in mind that also (gameplay + graphics > gameplay).

Even if they were forced to use a much lower poly version than the one shown in the trailer, i would still be satisfied.

    Agree.

Thing is, i believe most of the ppl that are defending the semi-cartoony art style would also appreciate the more realistic fantasy look BLESS has.

Bless is a beautiful game! No arguement there.

The thing was to hit a market where it can be played on most computers today. Bless has one of those great looking graphics that dated computers can't play and that leads to that SOE will lose players.  A LOT of players.

But yeah, the graphics for "Lion King" seriously needs a facelift, lol. They can do that a lot better.

Still, i would take something half that nice, with the more realistic art style, than some silly smiling sunday morning cartoon art. EQN better really be able to deliver on the more innovative-type gameplay .

    Dated computers can't play?

Bless is running on a modified Unreal 3 engine.

Most computers, even ones 3+ years old can handle an unreal 3 engine game.

Well then go play Bless instead. This argument is getting old. EQNs graphic style isn't going to change St this point. If its a deal breaker for you then move on. Honestly MMOs with pseudo-realistic graphic are in the majority, I'm sure you can find one of them to play.

I like EQN's graphics style, in fact, I prefer this over realistic.

i was going to post , but then realized if the OP has not bothered to check any of the other excellent threads about graphics,  and the shortcomings of high res graphics, he would not be bothered to check this one.

    /sigh

over 20 years of mmorpg's and counting...

The Disney art style has survived 90 years and is now part of the collective american experience - EQN should be half as lucky.

    Nice 'kindergarten' jab though -

    - tell us again about your grown-up sophisticated concept of magical half-man half cat heros ......

I agree with you. Bless is on another level compared to EQN's cartoony style. But to be honest I am beginning to think gamers are some of the most entitled, spoiled people on the planet. EQN is what it is. It'll be cartoony and try to appeal to a broad audience. It will not be exactly what you want it to be no matter how much of a fit you throw. I had to come to terms with it, too, and realize I am not the center of the gaming universe. There are so many other games in development now, not to mention future titles we don't even know about, that could satisfying your graphical needs. So simmer down.

OMG! If that video is showing actual gameplay footage, then (even if it is half of it), I am soryy to say, Bless may become the real "Next", not EQ not WoW2 not Titan not anyhting else. I'll be keeping an eye on Bless.

I'm here cause of the sandbox features but it's just that i stopped enjoying Disney's super long-lasting productions some years ago or i'll say that i rather appreciate the more mature content.

In the end this thread was made in an effort to congratulate Rosie Rappaport. I don't get why all the fanb... i mean loyal followers are so negative about it.

In before lock. Stop trying to promote another game in this section. If Bless has half the features that EQN looks to have the graphics may actually mean something. Pretty graphics aren't hard to have.
  • AlleinAllein Member RarePosts: 2,139

Rosie and other Dev didn't say they couldn't make EQN look like Bless, they chose the art style they wanted to suit their needs and to fit their vision.

They have said that it allows for progressive upgrades over many years, can be easily used for other IP material (comics, animated shows, toys, etc). On top of allowing a wide variety of computers to play the game "well" not chugging along on the lowest settings.

There vision wasn't Bless. They are completely different games.

I could want Mario to look like ESO, but that doesn't make any sense. I could want ESO to look like Wildstar, again doesn't make any sense. Different games, different themes, different visions.

the real question is, can the voxel world actually even be possible with Bless like graphics?

cause Voxels >>>> Bless Graphics, as beautiful as they are

EQN is made for western audience, if it didn't have dysney graphics and weren't focused on eSports, it would fail here.
