before open beta i wasnt sure, now i am sure, i'm subbing.
themepark is not my favourite type of game but well done is well done, and ff14 is (now) well done. it feels immersive for a themepark and that's hard for me to say. it's also well polished and endearing in a very final fantasy way.
IMHO has the chance to be the gold standard of themepark MMO for the next several years if they capitalize on the new start they have lined up.
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
If somebody can not give a game at least the first 15 levels then MMORPG's are not for you.
Speak for yourself. There are plenty of MMORPGs that I've played for a few levels and have gone, "Nope!" Yet, I still enjoy and have put hundreds of hours into certain MMOs. I'm just a lot pickier than most people.
Anyway, it seems like an extremely solid themepark MMO, and I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it. Unfortunately, this isn't what I'm looking for out of an MMO at this current time.
I will be playing upon release, although I'll be right in the middle of a move so I won't actually get much play time. My thoughts mirror those of Ridelynn earlier in this thread.
I did the beta 3 times now. Its quite a beautiful game, but after playing so many games from WOW, Rift, Warhammer, Aion, GW2, LOTRO, TOR, etc I just feel like the game is a half step backwards with regard to the PVE questing itself. I think both TOR and GW2 took the PVE genre a small step forward. If I was relatively new to the genre, I would say play this game or possibly Rift or TOR as your first choice (Rift if you don't want to sub or maybe TOR, this game if you don't mind the charge). If you are waiting for the next big game be it possibly ESO, EQNext, etc, and just tired of tab targeting, voiceless wall of text quests, trivial questing in itself, etc, then I suggest you move on like me. I'll be sticking to single player games until 2014.
I'm a huge PVE addict, but TOR proved that Story isn't enough to keep seasoned folks in the game if you are worn out by the same ol same ol and are looking for something new. I do hope the people who are enjoying it have a great time and I really hope that it provides a new lasting home for those who do love it.
Not going to play. I'm glad they managed to turn the game around and bring it to a state where I would feel ok to recommend it to someone, but personally I have zero interest in playing this type of MMO.
I will definitely will be subbing to this game. I really liked how the cross-class skills worked. I leveled Conjuror to 15 over the weekend then took a couple of other classes up to level 10, and I liked how I could slot the cross-class skills on the new class even though they were gained at "higher level" on the other class.
I also really like how they implemented crafting and gathering as true "classes" that you have to level, with gear and all. I'm a huge fan of crafting in MMOs and it was a lot of fun for me to get to play with gear sets just to go out and cut some trees and sew some armor.
I had more fun playing this game over the weekend than I have in any MMO in many years. The game has very much of a Final Fantasy vibe. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. I guess it makes sense that I liked it.
I can't help but sigh and sort of chuckle at the responses I've seen in this thread as well as other threads about this game and other mmo's in general as of late. It's all about preference. Do you like the game? If so, you'll find tons of reasons why and defend it passsionately. WIth FFXIV, if you like Final Fantasy, a more relaxed pace of gameplay along with beautiful scenery and story content, then you'll love the game. If not, don't play it, but don't bash it either. Same thing goes with any of the other MMO's currently out there. If it's your cup of tea, play it and sing its praises. But if it's not, don't rip it a new one as if your opinion is superior to anyone else's. You can say what you don't like about it without sounding condescending or arrogant. It's not that difficult.
Originally posted by Br3akingDawn For sure i will. Though it is not 100% what I would like the mmo to be. There is nothing else better atm out there.
It looks as good as any other themepark out there to me, but I'm not playing it. On the flip side, it's not really better than anything else out there at the moment either. In other words why would I leave my current themeparks with everything I've put into them to play this?
If I had nothing invested in any other game then I probably would. Or if it wasn't sub-locked then I would buy into it, but I'm not renting the "same thing" just to throw it away 3 or 6 months later. That seems like a waste of money.
Torv you explained my view also on it. Well said. It may be a good game for some but seemed too generic to me. Nothing hooked me especially not enough for a sub.
I played 20 levels and I had enough. This game is driven by lore but sadly no novelty. I wish fun and long future for this game because many loving it!!
will not be playing this game, it feels like any other F2P mmorpg out there, and I think it s a downgrade from the original game, i liked 1.20 ff14 a whole lot more than this.
to those that like it i hope you guys enjoy it tho ^^
Id actually play for fun if it was B2P but it does not feel like its worth 10-15 bucks a month for it.
I'll be subbing. I wasn't sure in the CBTs but something changed and got its hooks in me this past weekend.
Will I play 6 months down the line?
Not sure, but I'll say that about every game from now until I am no longer around (mortal coil and all).
I've been unpleasantly surprised before but for all those saying that it will go F2P in X months, SE has steadfastly maintained that it will not go F2P as they are internally financing. They do not have to go F2P to pay back debts. If I remember correctly (and I may be slightly off here) they said 'shut down' versus F2P.
This past weekend they were cautious about opening new servers (even though people were having the troubles we all know and hate) to avoid some servers as ghost towns when the X percentage of ‘try before you buy’ customers decide not to play next Saturday.
For all the 'rage posts' regarding the errors that were occurring, if they had popped another 10 servers this weekend (to cover the overflows) and then ended up with a server merge in 60 days or less...guess what...more rage posts....
I still don't know how long I'll stay on without a break but I will enjoy the journey to find out. Get Saturday here faster!

I will play it. It does not feel innovative and even boring at the start but I want to give a nostalgic game a chance again. After all, all the new "innovative" games did not work for me. Back to the roots.
This said, there were some elements I really liked during beta and the community was also better than usual. Perhaps older players like this game more
Originally posted by NetSage ~60% isn't that bad honestly. Especially with server issues over the weekend.

I know. At the time of the post I think there were about 650 votes cast. But, I still think it's a decent amount. Considering so many titles just Bomb after a weekend on this site.

We'll see what the game has to offer in the end and how often content is released.
As of now, I will be subbing and leveling almost everything to 50.

You can count me in without hesitation....
There's real depth here that gets me Immersed especially the gathering and crafting...
There's some bad points but they are out-weighed by a long way.
