Find a good guild is bull crap. People that say that are just trying to give an easy stupid answer. People have used this same line "find a good guild" in every crap game that should not have been an mmo in the first place.
In a game like Guildwars 2, you could have a guild of hundreds with many willing to work as a group, but because of the game mechanics why ?.....Because you can still run off with a bunch of strangers and easly do the same thing !
- Classes are boring.
- By level 20 you had done everything.
- Popcorn trail style. Do two quest move in a line to the next quest. As you advance you can even look at your map and see that your moving up a pre-set line !
I came back to GW2 waiting for FF14 last week. I made it to level 16 and could not take this anti social boring mmo anymore !

Yeah. I play it, but it's not that great. It's like the skyrim of MMOs.
Wait... what?

I was lucky enough that my group of people and I managed to get into the in house alpha where we got to play GW2 for people to watch at pax or some crap, and even then we saw no potential it was just boring and lifeless there we said what needed to be done along with alot of the other groups we knew on there alpha forums and they simply ignored it.....terrible company ....terrible game
It was fun for awhile. After a month or two that was it though.I wanted to fish and relax by a fire making some good food(ala vanilla WOW). Alas no soup for you>)
I actually just started sPvP. Started with duels in player created arenas. Now I'm doing solo que. Still trying my best at a hammer/mace+shield warrior.
Best value for the money by far, imo.

I have an 80 thief and an 80 guardian with some alts of varying levels.
It's a good game, but it really does have some deficiencies.
1. It's a very cynical game and not at all alt friendly. Find a skin you like? Great, now you have to buy a transmutation stone. Okay, I understand ANET needs money. But then you want to build a second set of exotic gear for a different build, but you can't use that skin without destroying your old item! But I want to keep TWO (or more) sets, why do I need to throw away items constantly? I'm okay with buying more transmutation stones, but why do I need to find/buy that skin again?
2. Very grindy. I suppose this is to counter-balance the fact that once you have your character looking the way you want, there is little to do outside of pvp.
3. ANET Nerfs anything that actually gives you stuff. Every time they see players migrate towards something because of the rewards, they immediately say, "Wait, that's not how we intended you to play, nerf!" Pretty annoying.
4. Everyone skips all the content. I think the worst thing about dungeons is that no one actually wants to do them. You run past pretty much all the mobs, kill a boss, run past mobs, kill boss. Repeat. 10 minute dungeon runs! Yay!
5. WvWvW is terrible. Join the zerg, go from point to point - press AoE buttons and that's it.I'm sure someone will come in and talk about all this strategy they employ. No. Just no, I don't care what anyone says on the forums, what I observe in game supersedes your meaningless explanations.
6. sPvP isn't bad, class balance is definitely wonky, condi builds do not have to sacrifice as much as a zerk build does (in terms of stats). I don't think they've figured this beast out yet, but I do enjoy spvp most of all in GW2. But speaking of sPvP, again with the cynical attitude of ANET, WHY THE HELL CAN'T WE USE OUR PVE SKINS IN SPVP? Why can't they just make them available to us in the pvp tab? I don't get it, you get to keep your skins in WvWvW, they already know how to make reusable skins (achiev skins), but for whatever reason, sPvP requires you to get your skins again. Completely baffled by this decision.
7. Level cap should have been 30 and the rest of the world should have been open gameplay with rewards. Honestly, you make a character, you level each weapon and you're what, level 3-4 by the time you have all your weapon skills unlocked? Then it's a slow progression to unlock utility skills (most of which are utterly useless for leveling and only become appealing in group play or pvp), then you get some traits. By the time you hit 80, you're so tired of playing that character that you just don't wanna anymore.
This is something MMO's haven't understood about the appeal of MOBA's. You play a match in a MOBA (20-40 minutes) and you immediately have the option to play a new character! So having 4-6 abilities isn't boring for that time frame. Having 10 abilities for 80 levels (1-3 weeks depending on how much you play) is really grating when you aren't really allowed to customize. At least D3 get this right - you can change your skills and associated runes and play a completely different play style any time you want.
8. Weapon skills are stupid. Limiting weapons to just 2-5 abilities is horrible. You are stuck with what you get in any given weapon set. Let's take the thief:
I like Dagger/Dagger - if I go for a zerk backstab build, my #3 and #4 are essentially pointless. I'm now down to 3 skills! One of which is auto-attack . . . wtf.
I switch to a condi build, #1 is mostly pointless and auto-attack, #2 is meh, #4 still useless, #5 is pretty useless. Yeah, you might have guessed it, I press 3 a lot. A LOT.
Instead of having a full compliment of skills with each weapon, they're further reduced in value based on your build. Yes, some of them are situational like #4 (dagger throw) which works nicely with basilisk venom, but that's really a once in a while combo.
Anyway, I sound pretty down on GW2, but I do like it, it's a very good game. It's not without flaws though (no game is perfect).
Bread crunb trail game that feels linear with no real purpose other than some wvw arenas and random events for 'fun'. There's no sense of longtime progression and it feels like playing a single player game for the most part. Crafting was also pretty pointless when I played it (a year ago). I didn't like it, because it didn't offer what I was looking for in an mmo.
I played it for about 6 months, quit 2 days after finishing my legendary. It was a fun game but I just ran out of interesting stuff to do. Keep popping my head back in for the 2 week updates but they're never new, it's always the same stuff with prizes at the end.

Not everyone is looking for party group play in a MMO.
And you call it "shallow" because it does not promote group play, or because it does not have a good combat system and solo play?

I did play on my son's copy for a short time, got a character (Guardian?) up to level 15 or so, but it just didn't grab my interest.
I pretty much played it solo, perhaps that was the issue, but overall I look for MMO's with decidedly different game play features.

Yes, I've tried it.
I found another game called "Watching Paint Dry" to be more interesting. It's B2P also.
