New Player Questions

Shatter30Shatter30 Member UncommonPosts: 487

So I have not played FFXIV in beta in any form but I have purchased to start playing at head start.  I have a few qeustions:

1)  How does one acquire armor, weapons, etc?  Drops and crafting?

2)  Is there a auction house to sell goods at?  If so where would that be located?

3)  Do players get a bank of sorts?

4)  What are instances like?  I know there are some you need to do pre-25 for your story or class, how long is the average instance at lower levels and how difficult?

5)  I want to role a healer so was going to go Conjurer and hopefully advance to White Mage, are there other healing classes?

6)  Any tips for a new player(very new)?  What are things you discovered when you were new that you wish you had known beforehand?

Thanks in advance

    1. Levequests, Dungeons, Quest at level 50, Crafting. Mob drops are all crafting items, no gear.

    2. Yes, in each main city. You can also hire retainer NPCs that can sell stuff for you.

    3. Retainer NPCs also act as banks. You get storage in your inn room, in your personal house, in Free Company hall (guildhall).

    4. Instances are just your normal dungeons. There are also Guildhests which are like instanced group quests. There are several instances you have to do to advance the story quest, pick a Grand Company, and get your chocobo and who knows what else later on down the road. From my experience the 15-33 instances were pretty easy.

    5. Arcanist is the other healer which becomes Scholar which is more of a HoT (heal over time) healer and has a pet.

    6. Level other classes  from time-to-time so you have access to a wider range of cross-class skills. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to be stingy with your spending as houses are very expensive. It wouldn't hurt to save older gear as well as you can turn it into Materia to socket into other gear.

Strider kinda hit the nail on the head on most your questions.

Saving gear is a great way to start out as you can re-use it to level other classes also. You are given an armory storage which is where you can hold gear so it does not take up normal inventory space and you have easy ways to save gear sets to switch back and forth between classes. My only wish there, is that they put in a filtering system on the armory to easily distinguish gear (unless I missed something like that in beta).

Being new (especially new to Final Fantasy games) your best bet is to hit up the forums and find a Free Company (guild) to be a part of. This game, though not as focused as FFXI, will rely on group involvement.

Don't be so focused on getting to max level. This game has so much more than the typical "rush to end game" mind set. Crafting classes are important to this game also. Experimentation, trial and error, patience, and perseverance come in handy for this game.

what I would like you to think about is learning how to play your job, very important in FF online games. Don't be afraid to communicate with others, the FF community has always been a helpful group, don't be afraid to ask questions. there is alot of things to do in game,so don't get overwhelmed. Us the recommendation process, it helps you find quests that you may have missed. try to hook up with a good guild, do your research before doing that. Look at what job you want to unlock first and work towards that goal, pick a craft that will help you craft gear and weapons for the class you are playing. Just have fun and good luck in game

SERIOUSLY needs a sort feature for the armory chest. also needs to show +/- for stats not just def/magic def, i hate when games do that. Took WoW awhile to add it to base WoW but for years had to get that feature done with mods, should be a basic game feature by now. So frustrating when you change to a new class and have to sift through EVERY single piece of equipment you have in every category when looking for whats best equipment you have for it.

weird thing is though is armory chest help thing said it does sort by type but i didn't recognize that happening. maybe it will at launch? though still needs to let us see which gives more int/str/etc like it does def/m.def

Good info thx.  How long does the avg dungeon / instance take at lower levels?  30 minutes?  1 hour?
