Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Hmmm... maybe there won't be hobbits, or elves, or men, or dwarves..

This is going to cause outrage, but I was just on the official website (again), perusing the character classes (again), and it occurs to me that the devs may not give a choice of race.  You'll create your own character.  If you want a dwarf, give him a beard, make him shorter, ...I think you shouldn't be able to make hybrids.  If you want wooley toes, you can't have pointy ears and your height is restricted...like that.

OK LET THE ONSLAUGHT OF ABUSE BEGIN!

Well I just watched the trailer from E3 2005........

The graphics and character motions are not of the high quality I was expecting from a game that has been in development as long as this one has. If that trailer is any indication of the character models we will be given to customize there is not going to be very much diversity in appearance.

I sincerely hope the gameplay is spectacular (though after watching the tailer I have my doubts) because if they are planning to use those graphics they will need it. I personally prefer solid gameplay over eye candy but even I have certain standards of what is acceptable of a current generation MMO. These graphics look more like DAOC than COH if you get my meaning.

May I ask where you saw the trailer?  Do you have a link?  I would like to see for myself.  Thanks

Thank you, I didn't see it.

Ok, I took a look at the trailer and, agreed, it doesn't look like much right now, but I'm also keeping in mind that the devs are far from finished with the concept art and are still making changes and adding content as we speak.

All I do know is that I am going to give this game a hearty welcome and do my best within my scope of power to contribute to it and make it fun for me.  But, unlike some, I don't place as much importance on graphics as I do on playability.  If the graphics get too detailed, my card won't handle them and I won't be able to play anyway.  (No, I can't upgrade again, got the biggest card my 4600C can handle).

You really cant judge a game thats this early in production. As with virtually all games the first trailers you see are that of the game with it's graphics settings on low for tesing reasons. I dunno why they do this because I think it gives a bad first impression. Also many of the in-game graphics such as dynamic lighting and shadows havent been fully implemented yet. So keep an eye out for later trailers. They'll give you a better idea of the final product.

Now back to the original subject matter. I agree with you all the way lilkanyon. If they dont have races in this game I'll be highly disappointed. The thought of you only being able to play a Hybrid race just isnt "Tolkienish".

Hey, Darktania, haven't heard from you in a while.  You must have a life on the weekends!

As for your reply above, you might have misunderstood what I meant though this subject seems a bit mute now that I've been over to the Source and they say there will be races involved.

I was a little confused by the character sets since they didn't specify races being a character choice so I was speculating that character choice may not be broken down by race, but more of a character creation option.  I'm positive that hybrids would not be allowed.  You can't have a short, wooley footed elf with a beard!  I was just stating that so those who wanted to comment on this thread don't bring it up as a possibility.  IF the devs were to choose to let players create their character to LOOK like and Elf or LOOK like a dwarf, there would have to be restrictions, that's all I meant.

And yes, I don't set much store by the trailer.  It's way too early for that.  It was only produced, in my opinion, for those who keep e-mailing the devs, "WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET A TRAILER!"  Whaaa!  For myself, I'm keeping my patience and I'd rather see the final product.
