If EQN is a true sandbox, mobs will only drop vendor junk and mats for crafting.. There will be virtually no "meaningful" loot from mobs.. I think it is safe to say you will not see this text in game:
"You have just looted [Uber Tunic of Awesomeness]..

Well I hope that is not true. There should be a combination. SWG had a fantastic crafting system but there were still really good weapons that dropped. I don't think it would make sense to craft a SSOY or Lamentation right off the bat. Maybe three types of loot: dropped usable weapons, broken weapons to be repaired by crafters, and schematics for crafters. Maybe make the schematic ultra rare but better since the item can be further customized.
There is this video on customisation which may answer some questions. Doesn't fully clarify things but some more info may come out of Gamescom this week.

It's a slippery slope if you start putting in mob drops like the one above.. People (guilds) will start farming them, and ya'll saw what happen there without instancing.. right? You will have dozens of people fighting over "loot" rights to Uber Tunic.. That so called dragon sword will be a contested mob for farming.. We really don't need that shit again.. So your choices are instancing (which I hate), make sure that loot is NO better then crafted items.. OR you go with BoP loot.. This will discourage camping for loot if you can't use it or sell it..
Well, if they play by their own rules, the Dragon that drops that awesome sword won't always be in the same place. If he hangs out somewhere and is constantly getting farmed, he should decide on his own that it is time to move to a different location, and perhaps make some friends to put up a better defense later (emergent AI).
If you were digging around or blew a hole in the ground and opened up a path to this Dragon's lair, defeated him, and there was an earthquake later removing that lair, it will move to a different part of the world for someone else to find in a similar/different way.
I am still confused about how items will affect things. They said that you can collect the looks to reuse even if you get a different piece of gear. They said some items will have effects like the boots that allowed them to glide after the double jump in the demo they showed at SOElive. I think they said that items will not be stat based as well. So, still waiting for exact info on how items will work.

Ultima Online has lots of different loot from monsters.. maybe i dunno what exactly a sandbox game is but I though UO was one of the first sandbox MMO'S and they have Katana of vanquishing which was pretty uber

I just hope it's not the usual lvl restricted crap, or need a skill of whatever to use this item.
70 monk eq1
80 bruiser eq2
43 druid wow
Currently playing : rift
I can guarantee that no items will be level restricted

It's going to be tier restricted instead...same thing.
