So Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 was F2P, will FFXIV: ARR be as well?

Do you think that Square will go around and make FFXIV: ARR free to play as well? I mean after all most MMORPGs are being F2P these days like SW:TOR that offers F2P from 0 to 50, but at 50 you have to pay for endgame and stuff. Should be something for the long term player and not someone who wants to try and buy the game and quit after a month anyway.

    14 went free because no one would pay for it, and is why they made ARR, to try and salvage their investment.  they wanted all the ff11 people to play 14+ any new players they could get.

    No. They have already stated that it is not their intention to do that. To be honest, a lot of the posts around here are in favor of the P2P model for this game.

    FFXIV at the start was NOT free the developers sent an email apologising to the people who purchased the game as they thought it was not of a good quality level and made the game for a FEW months free as compensation.

    After these few months the game went P2P till it got shut down to be reworked in what it is now.

    They rather shut it down then make it F2P.

    So no.

    They only went F2P for awhile as an apology to people.  It was also an attempt to get some back after they had improved the game a little bit.

    Look at it this way.  FFXI is not f2p and it has been out 10+ years.  It doesn't have millions of subs either, but Square is more than happy to charge money for it.  I hope FFXIV always remains p2p, I hate this f2p mentality developers are getting.

    Also, Yoshi-P has stated that since Square did not have to rely on outside investors, they have no pressure from anyone in terms of profit.  They used their own money to make the game, and therefore they won't have to go F2P if monetary goals aren't met right away.

    Nope! Its p2p.

    And before the freeloader come here with their QQ... Wildstar and ESO just announced theyre also p2p. "F2P is the future," my ass!!!
