This game is in its still early stages.
This game uses two NEVER BEFORE USED technologies.
A game this size, with no "zones" has NEVER been done. They are doing it.
A MMO , with FREE FLIGHT has NEVER been done. They are doing it.
A MMO , using this server architecture to accompany nearly limitless connections, HAS NEVER BEEN DONE. They are doing it.
One seamless world, unlimited connections, free flight... They are making history.
Real time weather effects that WILL (In DnL) effect your avatar.
And yes, with all of this, there are bugs to shake out.
This game is not about level grinding, in fact you will need to HUNT mobs, not go to some "Noob" area. The land does not "scale" by levels according to how far out from the "starter" village you are.
The game is not linear; it has living, breathing, adapting ecosystem and MOB migration.
If you were expected to have your hand held like WoW, or EQ1-2, then this is not your game.
To do great things, you must take risks.

early stages? You call 5 years of developement an early stage? The game is due in 5 months yet it doesnt have ANY of its promised features.. geez you pioneers can really get desperate sometimes.

I am the flipside of the coin on which the troll and the fanboy are but one side.
I believe Horizons had free flight. And my main frustration is how they try and communicate data. The link given to pioneers was wrong. It took me a long time to find the "fix" of deleting the .ini until someone posted it here because there site was swamped. Yanking the forums is poor form. Hopefully this will all get straightened out. They really need to find some native english writers too. A lot of the communications have gramatical and spelling errors, which leads follks to believe there is a lack of professionalism and polish.
More than five years. Not early stages. If a game is in Beta it is NOT in early stages.
Not true. A game with no zones HAS ZONES. The game loads the zones when you near the edge of a certain point. That way you do not need to see a loading screen. All DnL has done is add many more zones. If WoW added 50 new zones it would be the same thing DnL is doing.
City of Heroes has done it. I am sure many other games have done it, but their names escape me right now.
Yes it has. They are not using any new technology. Clustering servers hasnt been used in MMORPGs much, but it is not new and they are not original for implementing the use of it.
No they are not. You already made those statements.
This is the interesting feature that hasn't been done in an MMO the way they are talking about it. However, weather is not in SOG (Or so I have heard) so everything you say is not true until we see it in game.
I except many bugs in a Beta game, but having run time script errors would be a huge embarrassment to the programming team.
Yes, and from the looks of it you actually have to hunt. So, while you still do have to grind.... You'll have a hell of a lot harder time grinding because You cannot find any damn mobs.
You already said this.
Can you be a bigger fanboy?
LOL that's the most complicated way of explaining "lack of content" I've seen.
The lack of mobs is either because the servers can't handle it (ie. like Horizons) or they haven't had time to implement them yet. I think it's the second, but ultimate the first will come into play as well.
1:All of the consistent log-in errors, corrupted characters and all around problems with this game would suggest it is indeed in early stages... ALPHA would be the correct word to describe it.. WTF HAVE THEY BEEN DOING IN BETA FOR YEARS??? Why have they been delaying this game for sooooo long?
2: Yeah the game is using technology thats never been used before.. and i can see why...
3: Your right the game has no ZONES and little to NO MOBS little to no NPCs matter of fact this game barley offers anything..
4: Free flight, snow shielding wont make up for the lack of basic content.. like mobs and NPCs..
5: Your right after a week this game will be history...
6: You actually belive the BS about content thats coming to DnL when they cant deliver half of the SoG promises... How much does Alchemic Dream pay you?
I agree to do great things you must take risk.. they took a big risk and failed miserably
Allow me to correct you...
1 - Its been in developement YEARS! these people plan to accomadate about 100k people in 5 months...
2 - While it is "zoneless" keep in mind thats not always a good thing, look at horizons....huge world...many ghost towns...
3 - City of Heroes
4 - So far they have yet to prove they can do it either...
5- So far Real time weather isn't in, infact there was abit of controversy over if NP3 stole the tech used mto make the map and weather tracking from some guy. Give the fact that if thats true, it would explain why they don't have weather yet (cause they didn't write the program so don't know how weather was supposed to tie in)
I understand what your saying though....yes the game is trying alot of awesome innovative idea's. However there comes a time when we have to listen for the "POP" (tigerland reference there) and realize that as of this point to assume a massive game work over will occur in 5 months (it took them over 2 years to bring you this much) may be beyond the current dev teams capabilities.
given what you've seen....will you buy this game in 5 months?
-Umm not only do the rules say your wrong, but your also a ...
Im not a pioneers. Just some one that realises everything they are trying to do. While some of the things listed may have been partily done in other MMO's, they have never been done to this scale or together.
Mabye COH has free flight, but is it over a world size of 40km square?
ETC.. This game is breaking alot of rules that other game makers are scared to touch. And that will take time to Develop. Its only in beta... with alot more creativity and uniqueness than most MMO's.
Its easey to copy the wheel, its another thing to redesign it.

Weather is in, the effects ( effecting your player) are not.

The size is irrelevant. The size has no effect on what you are talking about.

Please tell me ONE thing you see in SoG that is something another MMO is too scared to touch.
You are such a fanboy. It's ridiculous. Why the hell am I even bothering replying!

Just because something is unique or different does not make it fun. Most game designers realize that huge world needs huge amounts of content. Well designed content. Players want to be entertained, not have to entertain themselves. Without interesting quests, well developed back content such as NPC's and good game play mechanics such as a good combat system the game is doomed. Dead game walking.
Beta is not an excuse, this game has been in beta longer than most are in development. After three years of beta you should at least have a combat system developed, and a basic front end, and a basic quest system. Good Lord what have you people been doing for the last 5 years? Perfecting anal hang gliders and snow boards?
I miss DAoC

I don't know why people think the size of the gameworld is such a big deal. It's not like creating, say, a skyscraper, where making it bigger actually provides some engineering difficulties that need to be overcome. It's a digital world. Make it as big as you want - it doesn't matter. A really huge world is only worth a damn when there is content enough to fill it. All indications thus far are that there isn't.
I don't care how creative and unique they are if they don't manage to implement their creative and unique ideas in such a fashion that it actually yields a fun game. All indications thus far are that, over what - 4? 5? years of development, they haven't done that. You're seriously confused if you think another 5 months are going to make up the difference.

If you dont like it dont play its a simple as that mate. Oh and why is he a fanbois? Arent we all fanbois off mmorpg's? Dont we want companys to succeed and produce a game that is different to the 100's out there? I think this is what the makers are trying to do but are taking their time about it. However i would imagine no one on here has a clue how a game is made from start to finish so I dont know how people can comment when they have no experience on developing a game. Whether they succeed or not who knows.
The game is NOT in early stages. It is years old.
The never before used technologies don't seem to be working very well . . .
I appreciate their scope of the game. A huge gameworld with no zones would be great. I was a fool to think this company could pull it off, though. Are they doing it right? The steady line of delays and excuses would lead me to think that no, they aren't doing much right at all. They are making stuff up as they go along. They are often surprised by their own deadline and then have to scramble around and delay, with a poor excuse.
I hear that riding a dragon and flying the hang glider is fun. Let's hope there's more to do, or I may as well play Tony Hawk or something. From gameplay footage, the free flight looks cool. Maybe they are doing that right.
The server architecture doesn appear to work, not even for 8,881 players. They've better start peeking at some other mmorpg companies notebooks soon.
The only history this company is making is becoming the worst mmorpg, and the most drawn out development, of all time. They are well on their way to topping Funcom's abyssmal release of Anarchy Online. I won't judge anything going on now, but come April (or whenever DnL launches) their ways of doing things would have to improve , A LOT
I am very interested in the Real Time weather, can't say much about this now, but it is promising.
I can handle bugs. I don't take to being left in the dark about the state of the game, though. I also get irritaged when the games forums are taken down at a key time for players trying to make some sense of things. This was a very bad move. They did that all wrong.
I always thought that the actual game would sweep me off my feet and make me forget about the 2+ years of delays and aggrevation. I hope that may still be, however, there is a point where you have to ask yourself, "is this really worth it?" and move onto another mmorpg. Having a broad scope is good, but keeping it realistic is something that I don't think that Farlan/NCube has done. They are in far over their heads.
I am giving my opinion on why I think this game is crap. Thats what a forum is. Two different people with different opinions communicate and talk about their difference in opinions. If everyone had the same damn opinion forums would be useless.
Take your own advice If you dont like forums, dont go to one.
You do not understand the term "fanboy." It means someone who is ignorant to any competitors product. They want everyone to praise their product of choice and declare all other products in that genre to be crap. They arent educated well, but that does not stop them from making dumb ignorant statements.
I would love for DnL and SoG to be a good game, but it isn't. Simple as that. They are not doing anything original (That is in SoG). After three years of Beta they havent achieved anything.
Which is the problem. It should not take three years of beta and two years of development/alpha to come up with a game that is Beta 1 ready.
I actually have gone to College for game design and, believe it or not, do know how games are made.
