Just checked my Launcher and found I could log in and begin to download the client. Just a heads up for those without too much bandwidth.

If that is what it means then something else has gone wrong. I entered my preorder code a while ago and received my EA code when I did so. Is there someplace specific to enter the EA code at this point?
Just to be clear, which code did you enter? The 18 digit one? Where did you enter it? Did you receive your 20-digit code? Are you in North America?
Yes, You entered your 18 digit code on the preorder website, and if you got error 3, reguardles if the game shows up on your Store Account, you have to enter the code again at the preorder website your retailer told you to go to. Once you enter in your 18 digit code successfully, you then recive a 20 digit code immediately at that time, and an email will go to you aprox one day later that contains the exact 20 digit code to hold onto when early access goes live. The error 3 by the way was announced on the Square Enix support site as "a high traffic error" because too many people at the same time were entering it. The traffic now is lower so you should be able to successfully enter the 18 digit code again with no errors and receive your 20 digit code.
After you recive your 20 digit code, you download the client for the game at the exact same time you recive the 20 digit code. After you install the client, you can launch FFXIV for when early access goes live. Just this morning they fixed the launcher to have you enter your code and redirects you to your Square Enix Service Account. Once your there, you will log into your Square Enix Service Account and See at this very moment that "Registration code activation is not currently Available"
You must wait now until the 24th, when they announce early access, in order to enter your 20 digit code into your Main Square enix Service Acccount, which will then make the game client playable.
Note also: Your Square Enix Store account is not your Square Enix Serice Account
Note also: Your Square Enix Service Account will recognize your region reguardless of a 20 digit code or not, because of the address you set up your Square Enix Service Account as. It will Automaticly be applied to the region your address is set up on your Square Enix Service Account.

For me was realy easy.
I hade the early acces code for a promo site.
I than entered herehttp://preorder.eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/gb
When i was promted that the Key is ok i got to next step where they gave me another code to place inhttp://eu.square-enix.com/en
All where ok.And i think that was all to do as under my profile setings i have my game added(didnt have any before).
I started the client(i was in OB so i already have it)it made a small patch some eula agree.
I that introduce my account and i see the"play"buton grey and the mesage to wait till next phase will start.

I've not received one email about early access or preorder, only my original order yet i'm all downloaded and ready to roll thanks to this site.
Received my early code access (20 digits), registered it. Checked launcher, updating...

As i opened the launcher i got the same error as i hade in OB meaning i hade to go to:
C:Documents and Settings"User"My DocumentsMy GamesFINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn
and change "FFXIV BOOT" the line"EulaAgreement 0 to EulaAgreement 1".
Without that i cold not start the game launcher.
So no link for me with entering the early acces code on to the game launcher.Mibe that was yesterday?Or early this day?dont know!
All i know is after i log in to the game client i see the grey play buton and the mesage:
"Please wait until the start of the early access period or official launch to access the game."
So it seams they fix the issues they hade.
I am also a 1.0 owner and I have a ps3 version too (accounts are linked) with a EA code that was registered but I'm getting this message on PC only when I try to log in
"No valid or active account is available to play final fantasy xiv: a realm reborn"

In maximum on hour i got my code and used as i described early in a previous replay in this thread.
I gues u can also preorder the full game from them.
I personaly have an old key not used from 1.0 and from wot i have seen i can use the key on the 26 or 27.

Yes i got that but i am not following up to check for a solution because i am not going to be playing right now,maybe in a month or two.
I would suggest to make sure all traces of older files are deleted.When all else fails,i usually seek out registry keys and delete them and start from scratch.
