Can I play sub class first instead of main?

in Final Fantasy XIV

My bf and I are really excited to play this on Saturday. I do have a question and possible issue being as I am a first time FFXIV player. He wants to start as Marauder to go towards Warrior while I want to start as Conjurer to head towards WHM. The starting cities are different but we wish to level together from level 1 onward as we did in beta and not wait until level 15 when we can port around to the different cities.

If I were to start as Arcanist (which I need 15 levels of for WHM) would there be any penalty or anything that would be an issue down the line for me switching to Conjurer at level 15 to head towards a WHM? As I get attribute points I will put them in MND for heals so point allocation wouldn't be an issue.

Answers on this would be very appreciated! :)

    There wouldn't be an issue, and Arcanist will have a separate stat pool than the white mage so you can put points into dps if you'd like without worry. Keep in mind though that Conjurer would start over at lvl 1 when you switch.

    Nope, you're fine doing that! And as the above poster mentioned, the allocated attributes are specific to class, so you don't have to worry about planning for anything but the class you currently are.

    You'll have to work out with your bf what's going to happen when you start Conjurer from level 1 and have to catch up to him. He can spend that time leveling Gladiator perhaps. Other than that, no hiccups.
