Scholar or Summoner?

in Final Fantasy XIV

Arcanist here and been wondering about what job to go with. Anybody got any info on Scholar and Summoner?

    Both are pet classes. Summoner is DPS. Scholar is healer.

    Yea, the Scholar will also be able to buff the party too. Very interesting but I wonder how well it will be able to solo being a support class.

    Well you could just solo as an Arcanist which does really well, especially with a pet that could tank, heal, or dps. They can probably solo just about anything.

    But if you really want to solo as Scholar, the Scholar gets all the abilities that an Arcanist has, except I don't think Scholar can use Carbuncle.

    Where on there does it state Scholar and Summoner cannot use Carbuncle? That would be unprecedented, since every other job can use every single ability from its native class.

    Interesting, it does say ACN SMN SCH on the Carbuncle tooltip. So I guess it can!

    edit: like the below person said, the skill isn't actually called Carbuncle, it's called Summon, so I guess that makes sense.

    As for soloing, remember that ACN, SMN and SCH will all share the same level. If you level any of the three to 50, all of them will be 50. You really don't need to pick one since you will have access to both.

    I just want to clear up something for you.  You will only solo with your class which is Arcanist, as a class you get access to 10 cross class abilities from any other class.  Jobs which are Summoner/Scholar are more geared to group play, these receive 5 job spec abilities and 5 cross class abilities from cnj or thm.

    Got my Arcanist to 20 so I'll have 10 levels to decide. Really torn on whether to go Summoner or Scholar. So of leaning towards Scholar as I haven't played a healer in a while in any MMO. Usually do tanks or dps. Even though Scholar and Summoner are different it's still not an easy choice.  Both sound fairly interesting from the point of what they are supposed to do.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

    Im more interested in Scholar ... never liked being a pet class even though I always roll the Archery/Ranger archetype. Well theyre both pet classes but im not sure theyll actually be needed for healing. More of a bonus recieved from Arcanists. Plus Scholar healing looks like its going to be interesting.

    I will be going Scholar. Its an interesting class and it looks to be the best healer that can also buff. Every real group is going to want a Scholar.

    the guy who saved everyone from Bahamut in the trailer was a Scholar. of course you are gonna want them in your party.
