The biggest problems will be (3): no end-game raiding (top tier loyalists make a MMOG's backbone), no concrete & REQUIRED 4 core roles of Tank/Healer/DPS/Utility, & ZERO consequence ON-THE-FLY multi-classing (yeah, a life of consequence? right).
None of these are in EVE Online. EQN is touted as a sandbox, why are you looking for themepark features?
Sorry, but EVE Online isn't the rubric for running a sandbox MMOG.
There is no rubric, either. MUDS, Ultima Online, Runescape, it doesn't really matter.
They had a strong model of class depth & valuable concrete roles & they think they're changing everything but the most important thing -- THE BRAND PRESENTATION & IMAGE.
What they're doing is copying GW2, MOBAs, Champions Online, DC Universe Online, Smite, & Kingdoms of Amaleur because they or their venture capitalists don't believe in their own brand.
ArenaNet & Blizzard succeed BECAUSE OF BRAND.
And ArenaNet is hated by many for failure to conjure proper endgame content.
That, & none of them were ever even serious PvPers in EQ2, to realize why recognizing & succeeding in numerous, unique, set roles is valuable & instilling of sound strategy.
I'd be surprised if they even PvPed in EQ1.
Originally posted by nolic1 If those are your main concerns then EQ2 is there still heck there alot of games with what you want but I will be happy playing this cause what they have said sounds good to me. No more follow the yellow brick road or mmo board game play. To me most mmo's feel like the old Dungeon board game that was cool when I was young and wish I still had it so my kids and I could play but I will wait for a game that allows me to make my own story instead of forcing one on me.
Uh, no, EQ2 isn't still there.
EQ2 failed because EQ as a brand is terrible & they're too out of touch & proud to make the proper adjustments advised.
EQ2 PvP also failed because of their utter managerial incompetence, which is no surprise seeing some of the glaring art/creative direction missteps.
And yes I know its changed through the years but its still EQ2.
Ok what did they not adjust they changed the game to fit the market needs not your own specific needs.
And yes there PvP is bad because it has super gear in it so it makes the level of entry impossible for new players because all mmo's except a few have a gear power drive to them and make the possible even field impossible and it will always be that way in the current mmo's. There are some that saw this and made PvP a game in it's self and made to where players would be on equal ground.

They had best do a better job with the ratonga. I refuse to play a kerra that looks like tony the tiger had a baby with simba, I just cant stand how goofy that looks. I am totally disgusted with how that model looks.
If they don't change the kerra I will have to play a human or dark elf or something.

Or play with the character creation options for Kerra perhaps? No one would be forcing you to use the exact same look as shown in the demo's!!!

As it is, they're forcing you to play alongside such abominations.

Why would I contribute to or support a destruction of sound brand direction?
This thread is obviously an attempt to hold the EQ:N devs hostage to the OPs personal preference. Everyone who is on these forums (1 year before EQ:N is released!) will obviously play it, regardless of how the Kerran model ends up looking. Otherwise, they are just wasting their time ranting about a game they never intend on playing.

That's a very dated & archaic perspective to presume with.
I know they don't care, because they went forward with this crap as far as they did, & then many of them defended it publicly.
I'm obviously just seeing how many out of this small MMORPG.com sample demographic carry similar sentiments.

Well, the moment 14% how won't play the game because of the graphics. I must say I'm kind of surprised by this, considering this is quite a extreme statement. The outcome may not be representative, but at least this must give SOE something to think. I guess they did their own surveys and I believe it must reflect there too some extent. Alt least every time I see any article or a video about EQN, even if it not saying anything about the graphics, one of the first comments is always someone complaining about the graphics.
I will not skip the game because of a single model, but if the models we have seen represent the overall art style of the game this will at least give me a push towards not playing the game.
I think Rosie Rappaport got a bit carried away by new ideas within the game design community. I think it all boils down to the fact that games where chasing realistic graphics for many years and now the pendulum is swinging back.
If you follow Extra Credits, they all the time talk about games where all characters are coloured squares, and how the player feels invested with these squares. Indy games with reduced cartoony graphics, that's trendy.
I think SW:TOR fell in a similar trap. The other big trend is that games should strive to earn acceptance as the next storytelling medium next to books and films. And well, you can say a lot about SW:TOR, but the storytelling was great.
The fact is that people just see that the graphics are wrong, and you can't ague with that by telling them something about the uncanny valley and stuff like this. They they look wrong, they don't suit Everquest and they will stay wrong forever.
Originally posted by bingbongbros I think it is pretty stupid to not play a game entirely based on not liking one tiny aspect of it, like not liking the Kerran models.
The character models actually are a very important point, because that is what will be in the centre of the screen for almost the entire game.
Originally posted by Shorun I don't pick a game based on the character models. This ain't Sims.
Actually developers go far distances to push the graphics to the limits in any game, and they wouldn't do that it customers would not ask for it. The graphics is the first thing a buyer will judge the game by, and if it already fails there he will probably not look any further.

This is mmorpg.com, come here for the conversation but don't expect a microcosm of the gaming world as a whole, hell I would give any poll here a +/- %10 just to account for trolls.
This is EverQuest and I dont know what everquest you have been playing the last two years but the one I have seen has fairies and rat doll people running around...high realism was never the games strong point. Not even standard fantasy realism.
If you think what was shown is the ONLY model available...and if you think there are no options/sliders for mouth, eye, chin, nose, brow, head, neck, shoulder, arm, chest, waist, leg, feet shape or colour or size or length...
basically if you are so ignorant of game design and character creation options available in games to even have to ask this question then to be honest, I hope it IS the only model so YOU won't be playing.
Maybe they somehow pushed all sliders to the maximum to make the Kerra look a freakish as possible. But why should they do that?
It seems the have only tree different models available at the time. So I think, there is still hope that the models we have seen is are not final and they still have a chance to change them.
can all the disgruntled EQ/EQ2 players stop trolling on EQN and stick with their game(s) please. As far as i know both games are getting heavy support and expansions.

EQ1's 20th expansion is currently in beta. Some people just don't understand that this is a different game and, despite your expectations, may not be the game for them.

HAHAHA!!! Post is pretty funny, and I agree the Kerran race looks absolutely ludicrous. Dunno, if I will play or not. I'm thinking people are going to be very disappointed.
