I haven't seen much on which way people plan to play the game. I'm leaning towards using the keyboard and mouse, but if a gamepad is intuitive enough and flows with the game play I might give it a shot. What's your take on the subject?
I prefer mouse and keyboard (just makes chatting easier :P). But, the gamepad is pretty intuitive imo. So if I ever want to play while laying down or something I won't hesitate.
I've played both in P3 and P4 beta, and it depends on what setup I'm using. If i'm using my PC on a 1920x1080 HDTV (FFXIV looked great nearly capped out on a 70"), I tend to prefer a gamepad. It's easier for me to sit back and relax and play. I tend to lean towards the gamepad for more menial tasks too, and certainly prefer the gamepad menu (for traits, abilities, etc) on gamepad over clicking with mouse.
If I'm sitting at my desk or a table, or just don't have a big HDTV to view it on, I'll use keyboard and mouse. Probably stick to keyboard and mouse for more crucial/intensive raids/hests/leves for the accuracy it brings as well.
One interesting combination not posted is gamepad/keyboard. If I'm having a more social experience or session with people not in the same room as me, having a wireless keyboard plugged in or using the laptop keyboard helps a ton with chatting.
I'm assuming to see either a 50/50 split on this, or more bias for keyboard/mouse (being as most gamers here are PC players).
for this game honestly the KBM controls, especially camera, felt rather clunky. controller is very very smooth and offers a greater degree of control in my opinion. although i will have all 3 plugged in and running, i will likely be playing in gamepad mode.

Personally this sums everything up for me.
Being a tedious healer as I am in every MMO I play - I'll defintely be playing keyboard n' such for guilds.
However this game gives a a break with just mining for excessive income and just do that sometimes for long periods of the day without combat.
I'll then be using a controller for easy-going gameplay and just use a headset for chat for the most part.
Although the controller setup is very promising for this game, so It may even apply to using it instead of my keyboard/mouse after a period of time.
My last personal opinon is I wish Micro$soft would come to their gamer's needs at least one point in time to release FFXIV on Xbox One. FFXI is on there, still. It'd be bring that many more people to the game. Just, ugh. Stupid.
Mouse and Keyboard. Nice that unless FF11 that always felt like controller might be better then the revised 14 allows smooth mouse and keyboard controls.
There are certain games I like playing with a joystick (Racing games, fighting games, certain hack and slash games etc etc) as there's not much buttons involved in these games so there's no need to use mouse and keyboard.
Then their are the rest of the games specially online games were I wouldn't play with a joystick, ever!
All that button swapping and shit would frustrate me as hell!
The game pad is set-up well, and makes for a more relaxing play most of the time depending on your playing environment . However, the game pad has got nothing on the Naga, especially when it comes to healing.
Hmm, come to think of it, I may be able to use the stick to move back and forth, and the Naga for everything else. Sounds weird but it may work.

^^^ This, so much this.
I don't get how some people are die-hard in regards to one method of control or the other. I have been both a console and a PC gamer for decades and always have felt that certain types of games lend themselves more to controller while other types to Mouse and Keyboard.
Both are tools and, like any tool, which is better is dependent on which task you are trying to do. Try pounding in a nail with a screwdriver or tightening a screw with a hammer.
