Servers Locked Indefinitely?

Bluefear77Bluefear77 Member UncommonPosts: 112

Someone posted this on another site (not sure about its authenticity, but it seem legitimate):

A quote from Yoshi P from a twiiter link.

"Hello, this is FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Producer and Director, Yoshida.

The maximum expected population limit is nearing for each World, and unless the current World simultaneous connection amount decreases, we are unable to open release the limitation.

In case we do release the limitation, there is a high chance that the corresponding World will crash or cause issues, and we are thinking that it will be difficult for us to release it for a while. We please ask you to consider playing in a World that has a low limitation.

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause and ask to continue with your cooperation."

So if you are waiting for a server to unlock then you might be waiting for a long time (I've been waiting as well).

I think if servers are going to be locked they should offer free server transfers in the coming weeks.

Agreed. I pre ordered to play with friends, but I can't because of the server cap. So, I'm not even playing atm, and I'm even thinking of cancelling my preorder, because there is no point in purchasing a game I'm not going to play unless they remove the cap.

I heard word that they would open them back up after launch. They just want the population diversified on all servers. It's really messed up and we had the same issue on SW:TOR. Luckily I was able to reserve the names that I wanted in that game, even 3 days after release.

Talk about getting off to a bad start. It's currently 4:22am in the morning here in the UK and it's still impossible for people to create new characters on Moogle. I severely doubt the server is so overpopulated at this time that it's necessary for Square to stop people from making characters on here. By dictating what servers people can and can't make characters on shows a lack of good MMO management experience in my eyes and does nothing but hurts the very people Square want to entice to the game. I've created my character and spent some time ingame already.. I think it's absurd that I now will have to reroll completely simply because Square will not allow my friends to join my server. Stick people behind long queues or do something proactive to discourage people from joining a populated server but completely stopping people from making characters is absurd.

I know this might be a lot to ask, but if this information is accurate then people should start to make plans to move to new servers to be with their friends.

Who knows how long the servers could be locked for?

I'd be surprised as hell if the locks weren't removed at launch or at most a day after launch. It won't be indefinite.

It's based on number of active characters created on that server total, not number of concurrent players online on said server at that given time.

Correct, Square Enix is trying to fill out all it's servers, when it thinks it's done that then it will allow people to make characters on "full" servers. They are just pushing new people who don't care what server they're on onto servers where no one is playing.

I don't think there's any servers where no one is playing.   They're all pretty mobbed.

At least the NA servers are.

What a stupid idea this was. Split up guilds and friends, brilliant idea.

There's good and bad about it, but saying it's stupid doesn't change the fact that they did it.

I wonder if they only allowed each subscriber to create one character only, per sever, the lock out wouldn't have happened. People feeling the need to create 5 alts and not play them, so they can have a name, sounds like it jammed the whole system up.

Well, This launch is very very reminiscent of the GW2 launch last year. Log in issues, Servers being full and locked.

So, yeah, I didn't get on my 1st choice of servers then. I didn't quit, I dealt with it. My friends and i simply chose a server we could log into and we all moved. Even those of us that did get in.

What do you expect? It's a popular launch?

GW2 had free server transfers available that launch though, so you did have an option to move.

I think they simply weren't ready to relaunch yet.

The game was ready, the servers weren't. They had no idea this many people were gonna play and when they did find out from the beta weekend they weren't able to bolster the servers fast enough to make up for it.

Yea thats what I mean't actually, from what little of the game I've seen, the game itself is ready, square just wasn't prepared to handle this amount of people.

Tell your "friends" to roll with you on  a server that's available ,unless they allocate more importance to their character than to you.

Going to be WAY worse tomorrow:

After the emergency maintenance on Aug. 25, 2013 at 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., to confirm the optimization of the matching server for the Duty Finder, we will be limiting the login more than usual. We will be relieving the limitation gradually as we see oversee the status.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this is causing everyone, but we please ask for continued cooperation for an overall stable environment.

Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing.
