Based on all the threads...it sounds like the servers are down.
So while you all wait around for the servers...could you explain to me why there is so much hype surrounding this game? Based on the screenshots and videos I've seen...it looks like a ultra hardcore EQ1/WoW clone.
What are the features that make this game different? What distinguishes it from 98% of all other MMOs currently available?
Not trying to flame the game... I just don't get it. I can't find any info on their website (the website is god awful) and the game looks like WoW.

Plain and simple, most of us are probably here because we like Final Fantasy.
I'd be willing to take something 50% of wows standard even.
because we like it?
Well from your post you already seem to hate the game, dislike the website and your question is asking what distinguishes it from other MMO's?
First off my question to answer your question is, why must a MMO distinguish itself in order to justify it's worth to you?
You seem to be apart of this lonely group on these forums seeking something different and bashing each new game for not being unique. Have fun waiting for EQ next (which imo looks GOD awful) this game already doesn't seem to be what your looking for.
People play this game for it's polish, not for some distinctive unique feature trying to redefine the genre. They play it because typically they are old school gamers who are a fan of the genre being done in their eyes correctly.
Whether you see it as a WoW clone or not is irrelevant yet always seems to be the case held against today's MMO's. And remember FFXI came out before WoW, many of it's fans enjoyed trinity based mechanics with an emphasis on abundant and rigorous end game content with healthy updates/expansions due to it's subscription model that allowed a decade old sub game to exists besides WoW.
How do you know you like it? You haven't played it before yesterday?
wows 5.4 was actually supposed to release on august 27th, but they decided to push it back to sep 10th.
That's a glorified patch and not an expansion.
This "looks like WoW"?
This post is retarded.
You're pretty much wrong in everything you assumed about me, so I won't waste my time responding to this garbage.
I'm too busy to do it but can someone please answer this guy with a sensible and voluminous answer detailing all the great aspects of the game (and there are many) instead of jumping down his throat?
He asked nicely. Answer in kind, or shut up.
Not exactly sure what the point of your post is. I'm not talking about the graphics. I'm talking about the tab target combat, ! over head questing, skill bars and icons to choose your abilities...it's all the same themepark stuff we've seen for 10+ years.
Fair enough I guess, but for many people I know playing wow, that was on the reasons they decided to give this a go.
Because I find it fun. Not because it's "Final Fantasy". That ship sailed long ago when S-E released 12 and 13. I realized that S-E was taking the RPG series in a new direction, that I couldn't follow. Not to be rude to the people that did enjoy them. But I found 12 and 13 to be two of the worse FF's I had played since Final Fantasy Adventure (GB), Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (SNES), and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (GC).
I was hesitant about ARR, the guy was promising a lot of things that I wasn't sure he could deliver on, after playing 1.0. Then after being invited into the beta. I got to see 4 fun phases that allowed me to see that I did find it fun. Fun enough that I'd be willing pay for it.
In War - Victory.
In Peace - Vigilance.
In Death - Sacrifice.
A lot of it is the FF franchise. I can't speak for everyone, but this game franchise was a great part of my childhood. This and the original Mario series. Just excellent games. I'm a pretty big fan.
Even as a hardcore PvP'er I have a soft spot for this franchise. I'm having fun with the game, need I say more?
I don't disagree with that. Can you elaborate on multi-class?
Also, I've never played a FF game...would there be any chance of me enjoying this game as a total noob to anything FF related?
mmmmmmmmmm no don't think so, poor competition is not luck, it's a reflection of the market.
People speak with their wallets, other AAA MMO's that have launched since WoW have failed not due to the market being saturated, but to individuals thinking their games were turds.
Plus these forums claimed P2P dead yet it seems more people are willing to try out this P2P game than i've seen for any F2P or even B2P game since GW2...
Wow interesting to hear that opinion. Would you mind expanding on any of the features that you ended up really enjoying...and why initially you thought you'd hate it?
I'd be up for trying the game for a month if I could hear a little bit about what the game has to offer. I've tried looking but the website doesn't have anything useful...and the only guides I could find on the forums were montages and storyboards of pictures mashed together.
How can you say i didn't address your post in my first reply, than come here and tout the exact same logic that i addressed?
Let me try again quoting your words... "it's all the same themepark stuff we've seen for 10+years."
If that's not insinuating that "the same themepark stuff" is somehow a bad thing or not what your looking for in a game, I don't know what is.
You keep complaining about core mechanics being in this game that have been around for decades yet at the same time are asking what people like about the game? You've answered your own question my good sir. They like this "same themepark stuff we've seen for 10+ years" done correctly.
How's that for garbage?
You can have every class on one character and can mix and match certain classes skills. Some of the combos come up to what are called jobs, which are like advanced classes. To switch you just have to talk to a trainer then grab the appropriate weapon. Every 5 levels you get a cross class slot and can use another skill from another class that you've earned.
I'm not a real good explained but here's a good summation.

I know what ya mean, there isnt much out there to get an Idea, and I felt the same way. Really, why I thought I would hate it... from the pictures, I hated the art style, I thought the global cooldown was way to long, hated the lack of pvp, Didnt know anything about the crafting, Didnt see a class I thought i'd enjoy.
But. Once I got ingame,( Went with the pugilist) and I dont know... the Art seemed diffrent ingame that out of game, think of Tera, Art style wise. The Crafting... It Reminds me of SWG because you actual switch to the classes! The Crafters them selves are classes, so, I went with goldsmith, I can switch my weapon to a pickaxe, and I became a lvl 1 Goldsmith, and as you lvl that you get skills that you use WHILE crafting, and its just SO INVOLVED and I love it!
Now, Combat, it has that Good ol' Trinity feel, except if your group needs a tank, someone can whip out a sword n board, and suddenly their the tank!( if they lvled it). The Global cool down isnt bad at all It works really well actually, Combat is really smooth, and Quite Enjoyable, Using chain skills and such. When a Mob is doing an AOE, a Red circle( or cone) appears, not unlike wildstar or Guild wars.
All in all....This game blew my expectations away. I had no reason to think i would enjoy the game at all, but Honestly... I havnt been excited for a game like this in a Very long time, and Im so happy I bought it.
