One of the other things people are missing is that SE is not actually working to fix the problem in an intelligent way, their way of fixing it is to continuously restrict server access, then expand that access over and over by a set amount until it breaks again. Something they should have done with stress tests in beta, not during a limited release.
I highly agree with your comment, though I am also worried that this might not be the case. (I hope I'm wrong)
During Beta Phase 4 the servers were smooth and there was no problems whatsoever. There also seemed to be a high emphasis on character data being carried on to early access / official launch on the condition that no major exploits were found and abused.
The problems started appearing during early access, naturally they should appear on Japanese and NA/EU server but they only appeared on the NA/EU server.
To me this could also be an angry hacker from china who lost all the gil he was hoping he could sell.
I've seen DoS attacks done on servers repeatedly when a game puts efforts to stop Real money traders (such as chat spammers / massive character deletion / IP Bans)
And I am hoping this is not the case, as if it is it probably won't end until one side gives up.

I did play phase 4, and I am not trying to make up excuses for SE, I myself am pissed off because of SE.
During Phase 4 I did not have any problems logging in, or getting into instances at any point (The maintenance times was not an issue, it was beta phase 4 after all)

Phase 4 maintenance was BECAUSE of issues with instances (the same thing they're having problems with now) They claimed to have fixed it before EA
The difference between Phase 4 and EA ? They removed the error code for Instances and just didnt let you in them. They removed the 9000 error code and decimated access to the game.
This isn't some silly coverup. It's SE showing they have no idea what the hell they're doing. They put together a great game, and now stabillity is becoming a major concern. Partially because the same issue has not been fixed after multiple multi-hour/ even multi-day maintenances.
I didn't buy the game and have no intentions of doing so. I was burned the first go around. However, I completely disagree with the OP. They've had 2 chances to get this game's launch right, and obviously, failed both times. Also, they don't "give" you early access as a "gift." Open Beta is a gift. Early access is only achieved through the purchase of the game, hence it's not free nor something given to you out of the kindness of the company's heart. You bought it, and you have every right to be annoyed with this fiasco.
Players really need to think before they make blind excuses for underperforming companies. Keep excusing the nonsense, and you'll keep getting the nonsense. Want a better experience? Take the blinders off and hold these companies to a higher standard.
You did not purchase Early Access, you were given it for free, and an incentive to purchase maybe, but that is not what you purchased.
You purchased the full game, getting what players who purchase after launch will get, for the same price.
But for paying earlier Square Enix gave you Early Access for free, as a gift.
Judging the game on this gift, even if its a really crap gift, and whining about wanting your money back is pathetic. (Unless of course you actually just dislike the game in general, then by all means complain.)
Yes, Square Enix messed up with their gift to you, but ah well, deal with it.
Wait until launch day (27th) if you're still not happy then, get your refund.

Lets get some things right as you misunderstand some of those things. We purchased the "Client" like we do for all games that have a "box" price, this is true for both physical or digital purchased ones like how you can buy a book in paperback or digitally.
They wanted our money right away though and couldn't wait till launch to get it so THEY offered pre-orders and added some incentives to those pre orders. Among those incentives was cait sith doll and mog cap aswell as early access.
This is NOT a GIFT. They are not full filling their part of the bargain which allowed them to get our money earlier than others waiting till live to buy.
Plain fact is most of us cannot access the game during EA and therefore cannot use what we have purchased.
A gift would be something like them giving all those that did pre-order a special in game item or some such a week or so down the line for their EA mess up.

Speaking in terms of multiples is not an absolute. When I say "We" I am referring to myself and those who also feel the way (I can see based on the various posts that I am not alone). Do I really have to clarify that I am not speaking for everyone?
I get the venting part, but there are already so many threads on it that all say the same thing.
Oddly enough, I was never trying to imply they didn't deserve a refund. I think everyone who wants one deserves it. I am just saying, getting one over an issue that will be cleared up in a few days is a bit foolish if they would otherwise enjoy the game long term.
