I don't mind the 'twitch' combat. I enjoyed the combat in GW2, TERA, and Neverwinter. The problem was there wasn't enough other stuff to do.

I also enjoy  'tab targeting' combat.

If EQN can do BOTH, 'twitch' combat, housing, crafting, etc... then it might pull off an enjoyable mmo experience.

I think the main issue with EQ 'vets' is that EQN doesn't seem terribly EQ like.

    Might still be good though....

Did you read my post? The reason I am excited about EQ: N, and what EQ: N and EQ 1 have in common is the ability to bring people together to do things... you know.. THE MMO. in the mmorpg.  Everquest was special because we really knew our community. Most everybody was a part of it in one way or another. It was big, complicated, and it had its own drama and happenings. That was the point of my paragraph.

By the way, my account was made in 07. I've been playing MMO's since Ultima. I played Everquest, at a high level -- 2 DAY raids doing hardcore rotations in POH, POF all the way to NTOV, the sleeper (Velious was the best) and on.  Today, people play mmo's and most don't play past a year. Why is that? Do you think its game mechanics, art style, or whatever other underdeveloped theory that most have? It is because the game isn't making use of the fact that a bunch of people are playing together at the same time. Raids you say? or how about Q'ing up for a warzones?  These are multiplayer SCENARIOS. This is the problem with today's game. It doesn't create any other reason for me to play with people other than to do raids, fight tougher bosses..... and thats it. You don't even have to talk to anyone to trade and buy stuff with them anymore. Yea it's convenient but you don't realize that you are getting bored because repeating the same task over and over again is FOR MONKEYS.

The best moment in SWTOR for me was when the game had that infestation and the little artifacts you collected could be turned in for sweet gear. Now the only vendor to use these items you had collected farming this stupid catch, disease, die, collect item loop -- that vendor was in a pvp area. So one side camped that vendor while the other guys attacked trying to take it back. The empire came together to hold back a rebel push for something... AND IT WAS AWSOME. Epic battles.

From nothing other than a ruleset that didn't constrict us. EVEN IN EQ. Where you guys think was the father of the "themepark" mmo. Back then, you had to depend on people to travel, to pull your corpse from the inside of a dungeon (yea gear was on the dead body), to trade you would use the trade channel. The big raid zones were not instanced, so people had to get together to play fair on the server. Some people didn't and enemies were made.  Yes. Everquest was the root of today's evil, but it didn't make a single player game with an in-game small multiplayer server.

Most people will think that these are stupid reasons to say one game is better. OF COURSE the auction house made MMO's better. But what you don't see... Why we ALL play mmo's is to be immersed in a living world. A place to compete, explore, meet, and have experiences. We all quit games today because they can't deliver on that. I think. EQ was a simple game, and by today's standards, it would not be that great. What made it great was people taking a defined world and creating their own ways of doing things.

LOL please. If you want a 'cerebral' game go play 'Go' , 'Shogi' , or 'Chess'. Those old school mmos were not and I repeat NOT intellectually challenging. The only challenge to those games was how much time you were willing to put into them. Also 'twitch' combat in a good game is not just reaction time. In fighting games, fps games, rts games, or moba games many times you have to quickly make the CORRECT decision. It is not just a matter of see and react. As a matter of fact, in most those genres the ability to simply react to what you see is natoriously unreliable. It becomes much more about being about to anticipate what your opponent will do. But that was probably a level of complexity that you just didn't grasp :P

You think MOBA twitch style combat is cerebral?   Alrighty then..  Role style combat is to twitch action, as American football is to rugby..  Football is much more complex and cerebral then rugby..  But feel free to play rugby if you want..

I also enjoy  'tab targeting' combat. EQN already said there will be NO tab targeting.. So this means you can NOT actually put a mob in your target window (friend or foe)  Everything will be AOE damage or heals..  Range weapons will use a cone of fire type aiming..  This is pure FPS twitch combat..

Since this game is more FPS then role playing.. I know I won't enjoy it.. I like tab targeting because it means I can toss damage to a specific target, or heal a specific friend.. As I said above, without tab targeting, all you can do is swing a sword and hope you are in range (AOE damage), or you shoot range damage in a "direction" you are facing (cone of fire)..  The days of targeting one mob to CC, or heal, etc etc are not in EQN..

As for housing and crafting.. I haven't heard anything to chew on besides "It's better then SWG".. which I find that hard to believe..  but we'll see.

ok, i'll be impolite, but who gives a donkey's toss about EQ1 players' opinion?

SOE explicit;y stated that EQN would be a new game.

All EQ/EQ2 whiners that believe their opinion on what EQN should be is more valid than others' due to their ivolvement in the previous EQ games can stick to their games if they don't like it.

You think old school MMOs were cerebral? Alrighty then..  Also I think it's interesting you would bring up sports. Sports would be twitch style play, yet there can be a lot of complexity to them. O and FYI role style combat can also have twitch action.

But feel free to keep playing EQ1, I hear the servers are still up.
