Finally... a quality MMO

So I have been looking for an MMO to call home since 2010 after I quit WoW altogether.
I've tried just about all of them since with Rift being the only one that held my attention for an extended period of time.
Most recently, somewhat surprisingly, Neverwinter captured me and held me longer than I ever expected it.
I went out on a limb and bought FFXIV after downloading the character creator/benchmark utility a couple of weeks ago.
Now, finally being allowed in during early access, all I can say is.. Wow finally an MMO with some soul again.
I don't know whether my feelings are accentuated by coming straight out of Neverwinter, but FFXIV ARR feels like something special. Neverwinter while fun for a time was cramped and shallow as hell and I needed a good old-fashioned MMO to finally realise this in its entirety.
The moment my lvl 2 thaumaterge stepped out of the beautifully constructed desert citadel and looked at the detailed surrounds, the hazy distant mountains and the detailed character models I knew I had finally found a new MMO home.
The depth of skills and the carefully considered menus and utilites also exude a feeling of quality. Even the quests, while mostly much of the been there done that variety, manage to somehow appear fresh.. it makes a big difference being fed quest info in short, emotive paragraphs rather than just a slab of 10-point type like most MMOs. On that topic, the quality of writing is excellent, too.
If you're on the fence about wether to get FFXIV ARR or not, I sincerely suggest you do it - it may just be the MMO you have been waiting for too..!

While the early launch was a complete rubbish. I do admit the game does look and "feel" quite nice. Now let's hope we can still say that after a month or two.
With so much riding on this one for SE i sure hope they will deliver. Would be sad to see them fail a second time.
Now to get those horrible pictures of early access flop out of my head.
The game is great imho! Highly polished.
Except for the Duty finder and server load issues, the game runs smooth as hell.
During the times I managed to get past the errors and get into the game, I had a blast!
So far Level 15 on my New char. Can´t wait to Reach Level 20 and ride my Legacy Mount and then to Level 30 to use it as a Companion. :-)
I do hope they manage to sort out the issues and open up a few more servers to relief the current overloaded servers.
It´s a shame. As it puts a taint on an otherwise amazing game.
