Yep, early access has been a BLAST so far. No problems whatsoever, but then I was only able to start early access yesterday since I was out on a trip. Being able to advance from the quests from the previous betas feels GREAT.
It's hardly been bad but it's hardly been smooth either. Whoever though it would be a good idea to allow open beta characters to be carried on to full release needs to be slapped with a wet fish. Still have friends who can't join me on Moogle all thanks to Square locking up servers. I wonder what percentage of characters created on Moogle are alts for reserved names or people who wanted to try open beta yet have no intentions of ever buying the game?
Hopefully things will change come tomorrow when it's the "full release day" but tbh, a little foresight and common sense planning would have gone a long way. Nobody is perfect but some of their mistakes should have never been made.
I'm annoyed that it keeps locking me out. Getting a server full error again after being DC'd just now. I was fortunate to have a good 3 odd hours of gameplay during the early hours this morning though. Guess I won't be able to get back on till tonight now...
Originally posted by Syno23 I know that a lot of people have been having technical problems, but truth be told, this has been a smooth launch on Square Enix's part.
Yepp, the game is extremely polished and has none of the usual "released too early" problems. See my thread.

I've only been able to play for one hour so far, since the start of early access, because of the server issues, but from what I hear from guildies (some of them have much more free time to play at non-peak times), it's all smooth and good.

It should be a commercial where one of those cat girls from Final Fantasy runs out on a beach with a wine glass. She scoops up a glass of sand and drinks some. Then says "Square Enix launches Final Fantasy 14 smoother than drinking sand." because that's the only way this launch would seem smooth.

Been loving it so far. It's very optimized in terms of actual game play and not server issues. Just got to the Ifrit fight and the game just keeps on getting better in terms of immersion and feeling like a legit RPG game with massive amounts of people around and a group Final Fantasy setting. The game truly starts to pick up after the level 15 questline and defeating the first three dungeons in the story (surprisingly at level 15, 16 and 17 respectfully).

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.
When I can play it's a blast. And, honestly I didn't have an issue playing until last night about 2 hours before work (took a break to eat and couldn't get back in).
The game itself is generally clean, polished and not buggy.
However, the problem they have is that the architecture they have is probematic under this kind of load. Beyond the normal for an MMO launch, really.
So I would say it depends on what one means by "launch". If by "launch" one means the set-up of the game and giving people good access to it from the get-go, then no, it has not been a great launch by any means. And that isn't just the login issue but also the duty finder/instance issues, which interfered quite a bit with gameplay inside the game as well over the weekend.
Very solid, the downtime due to overload and ques only scream, THIS IS AN AMAZING MMO!
Here is something i haven't done in years. I take a quest and i go do that one to completion, then i wander around, explore, talk to the locals, admire the world around me till find another and then go do that one.

From struggling through epic raid difficulty ordering and pre-order access process, to a heavily instanced game where transferring between instances crashes and locks you out. There may be a good game hiding behind the broken servers, but I have yet to experience it.
Early Access has been a nightmare for some people due to server issues. I count myself lucky, as I was too busy for most the weekend to try logging in.
As for the game itself... I have been enjoying it quite a bit.
Game is great, I got a good chunk of play time in Saturday, Sunday? Not so much... barely played at all, wasn't able to advance much due to instance issues.
Hopefully by tonight things are in a bit more stable of a state.
I can forgive a couple days of bad.
Excited to get my CE box in the mail tomorrow! Hopefully it's easy to figure out how to get my CE bonuses and pre-order bonuses in game...
JP servers where we had the beta test until lately = amazing
NA/EU servers = crap ton of crap
Yoshida posted an apology today in regards to what happened in the NA/EU server, but if you read behind the lines, it seems the NA team fucked up the optimization of the servers, but now it is supposedly fixed.
what worries me though, it seems they desperately need 5+ more servers which I do not think they can magically accomplish in 24h period. so the issues while minimized , it will continue until 1-2 weeks from now
overall, the game can only be a success by the retention they have 1-2 months after release, but in my honest opinion, I do not think they are worrying or we should be worried. just look at all the systems together lodestone, game, duty finder, smart phone apps. they are all integrated and seems to me they are really keen to hook players up.
I have not touched a realm reborn at all, so cannot comment on the smoothness of its early access.
With that said, can you imagine if the game had crazy server issues that drove people away from it at launch (as has happened to other games in tha past)?....how many on this site would claim "seeeee, P2P is dead!", rather than acknowledging the actual cause? lol
Server problems are severe, no doubt about it. However, that's the kind of thing that's fixed short term. It's not missing a bunch of features the game desperately needs that they might sorta kinda maybe get to in 6 months "while they keep an eye on developments" etc.
