    Hi ;)

    To make it clear:

YOU DID NOT PAY 60 BUCKS FOR "IT"

You payed - if you did - 60 bucks for an exclusive featured account for "Dark and Light - to be released April 2006"

I like your logic, i hope pioneers use it when they try to get a refund for their pioneer accounts after they log into SoG for the first time..cause...you didn't pay for SoG so why should it matter right?

-Umm not only do the rules say your wrong, but your also a ...

Well April is a long ways away and they have enlisted the help of another company so we'll see. Also, the support for SOG was huge so this could mean more money in their pockets. So far though, when the server was running well It was smooth on 1280 resolution on my laptop which isn't bad at all. Also, flying around on the dragon was a blast and the fighting system wasn't too bad... just takes some getting used to. Some more content and a lot more server stability and I think this game will be a blast.

    So Virtuella,

What exactly do you think you paid 60$ for?
I mean what were your thoughts then a week ago?

I dont wanna attack any of you,
but I experienced some betas, game starts, game deaths....
and i see nothing different or special about this one...despite the fact you can preorder AND pay for it 4 months before release

PS: I wait for login since 13 hours now, too ;)

Be realistic now peoples.  Theyve been developing that game for how long now, 4 years ?  Now they pretend to be able to release this in 4 months in the current state ?  Give me a break, fanboys need to stop day dreaming, this is not getting release in 4 months, no way.

A lot games have server troubles right after they patch a new Publish, nevermind when they first launch.

If they are doing this right, they are releasing a barebones publish.   Optimizing server stability, and lag issues.   Then  slowly release more content (ie more accounts, more NPCS, Mobs, Crafting) anything that will clog up the databases, and make sure each step they are keeping the game optimized.

    This is a process.

If you looked at Michelangelo's work when the Sistine Chapel was just an outline, would you probably be a naysayer as well....if you didn't understand the process.

My thoughts when i paid for the pioneer key?
Didn't really have any high hopes for this game in the first place.
Been following it for 2 years so far.
It was supposed to be released in 2004 and now we're almost in 2006.
That alone should be a good warning.

Why did i buy a pioneerkey?
Because i've played 15 MMORPGs and i need a new drug.
I hoped that my pessimistic mind wouldn't be right but so far i can't see anything optimistic about this SOG release.

I've blown $60 on worse, and besides.  I paid for a pioneer account in DnL, not in SoG... the bonuses we get in SoG are just that... bonuses... on a free game.

Frankly, I think they can pull off an april release.  The only part of the system that appears to be badly hurting is the login servers.  That's not the worst piece to repair.

I think alot of people would complain less if they released more information on what was going on.  That seems to be the common theme.  Releases are never pretty, but they need someone to put on the PR hat and do the happy dance for us.

    Cheers!

    LOL... I love newbs.

If you know anything about game development and priority lists, you know that last thing they work on is the visuals and content.  Which most newbies base their buying descision on.

Althought they are having server troubles, it is because they are frugal and not spending $$ on upgrading bandwidth to handle SoG & Beta servers.  WHich they soon will. NP3 misjudged their capacity, but in no way is that a problem.

Secondly, when I did get into game I was surrounded by perhaps 300 other players and the "lag" was less than some huge raids in DAOC.  Impressive !

Thridly, this is an alpha game.. Dark & Light doesn't come out for 5 MONTHS ..!!!  There is ALOT of network coding and optimization that can be done in that amount of time. Flushing out the character customization and skill trees is easy as plug them in, more so than say trying to add features not listed or designed for.

I'm not having a fun or good experience with SoG, but I am very impressed with what I saw. It's nothing that $$ can't solve.

part of the 60 bucks was for the fact that we can take our heritage to dnl.  items perhaps and some gold, one characters title.  the free accounts dont get that, and that is why they are...free.  at this rate though, i wont have enough time to do any of that since they cant keep a server up.

I am rapidly losing faith that they will have a product worthy of $60 ready by April. I still have a little light of hope and faith but it is dieing.

I just want to find a good mmorpg with all the features that DNL boasts that I can spend a few years playing.

I bought one of the Pioneer Keys and am seriously considering getting rid of it to the first person to offer me $60 for it, if anyone heheimage

I paid the 60 bux and I don't regret it one bit. What I saw of SoG I liked. I think it's got a way to go before it's polished but it will get there imho image

NAh I payed the same ammount for single player games which I threw out after 1 hour or completed and never tryed again.

DnL is surely in a poor state right now, Ill give all teh naysayers that, but it will sure enjoy me to experience the development, have some fun getting to now the fast way to grind, enyoying the landscapes, perhaps even meeting future friends in SoG to play with in DnL if I choose to subscribe to DnL. I do got a free month aswell from my prepaid donation.

So no, I wont give it up, I honstely say I dont regret spended the money on this. Now Im no way saying I think the game is done or that the Im satisfied with the servers being down this day, Im just saying I dont mind paying the money for a game I found interesting for quite a while and still do after I tried SoG.

About it not releasing in april, well yeah, might happen might not. One thing is sure though, if the game wont release I feel confident in have bought it trough click and buy, and Im definately sure some sort of agreement can be done to get my money back if I do not get the product which I ordered trough this company, it is afterall their responsibility aswell.

I am not too worried about my 60$, its about 30 minutes of work for me..whoopy doo...I actually kind of like the game, besides all the crashing and login problems, I like the actual game itself. I know hte graphics arent much (at least the player models) but what I like the most is that there is no instructions lol...sounds kind of wierd but its like back in the first days of Everquest, with no tutorials or anything. Just thrown to the sharks nad learning how to swim. Anyways $60 isnt much so no I dont want my money back even if I hated the game.

I didn't pay $60 to play DnL.  I paid $60 for a guaranteed spot in SoG, a dragon in SoG and to play SoG.  The DnL client is an added bonus to me especially since it is quite doubtful whether DnL will ever release.  Looking at SoG all you have is a world.  A very beautiful world but nothing else.  Bring in a competent dev team and your 1-2 years from being able to release a playable polished game with limited content.  I would double that time for this dev team.  In reality they are 2-4 years from being to release a playable game.  Remember this game was supposed to be released in 2002 and what progress has made since then.  Almost none.  DnL sounds like a pipe dream to me.  I paid for SoG my SoG dragon, and the privelege of typing posts here while I wait on the SoG servers not for DnL.

They tried that Visual's line with Shadowbane and Horizon. We all know how the graphics turned out on those two. Stop blowing smoke. Chances are what you see is what you will get.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

i don't want my money back at all.  normally i'm not a patient person at all, but with games i'll give them all the time in the world and then some.  i don't mind servers being down, content not being tweaked to perfection or anything else.  i've done my fair share of end game raiding in previous mmo's and have encountered far worse problems along the way ("what do you mean this content that has been out for months has never been finished?").  i've also played betas that were in far worse shape (some that never came to be a real game) than this.  it's $60.  if i could throw that towards a game i knew little about and had never played, i obviously wasn't hurting for money, and i'm sure the rest of you aren't either.

I played on the servers yesterday - I wouldn't have been surprised if I hadn't.

No real lag : ran at 1920 x 1200, options on etc. Some people have issues I know but I didn't. i was surprised that it didn't freeze up when you came into the starter bind area - that was busy. It was no Ironforge. Quick loading as well.

Interface needs a total revamp - go and play WoW folks - please. No big deal though there.

Graphics in many areas were very good, running through trees, terrain in general, buildings - was just comparing them to some recent upgrades for some of the other 'established' games. They are good. Very different to the WoW approach, which are good as well imo, but but very different. Much more natural. WoW is more akin to the graphic artist Richard Corbin, DnL much more a Constable. Therere were some areas - rivers for example - that weren't implemented.

Not much character design - points towards CoH.

Sounds support the graphics well - textures underfoot change etc. I didn't seem to be able to enable EAX but the start screen says it supports Creative's new X-Fi standard. That could be very nice as it would give full 360 positional sound in combat. Have to make do with my laptop plug in Creative card though.

    Things are changing.

Another game with collision detection. Good news this this wouldn't be a simple graphic tweak.

The world is big, huge. Need further work on being able to find guildies.

Guilds - on day 1. A legacy of the community that has been developed on day 1. More work on the chat channels needed but looks reasonable. (Interface needs work here as well). May bescaling in part given the resolution I am running in.

The spell effect I cast was OK. Guildwars like. Lots of lighting effects OK. There is nothing wrong with the graphics and this area will improve.

Weather - not the full thing yet but still good. Somewhat dark for my tastes - made the lightning flashes good. Not as dark as EQ2 in many areas.

The mobs - yikes they don't act dumb. even at level 1 they will run away and they nearly all help each other if you are killing them. No freebie leveling here. Also the kills were not instant. Good sign that.

The spell list we have does remind me of pen and paper - have to see of course.

A few translation errors - no big deal.

If this was a commercial launch then there would be serios questions and the game would be destined to struggle. It isn't. I didn't see anything that can't be fixed if NP3/Farlan listen.  As a 'theta' - its to good to be a first pass beta but it isn't finished - it should have a future. Those who are disappointed would be well advised to go away and come back in 6 months say, have another luck. Unfinished games are not to everyones liking; do yourself a favour - don't feel bad.

And they are listening. The Pioneer offer came up; the forums  - well lets just say they struggled. So they took them down and when the free keys came up - well that was smooth. 10k in 1 min 20seconds. Not real said some but lo and behold the Terabytes of data that were downloaded via torrent. 15000+ and a good many directs as well, over 1000 from one site. No reason to believe that there are not 18881 out there. No Customer Support options - voila we can now post issues. And AD do come back to you.

Overall therefore - and without denying that there are issues - we can still hope that this will give us an excellent 4th generation mmorpg with the complexity that so many have been trying to bringus for the last few years.

Even though I have followed this game for a long time, I don't believe this is the time to play it -- even to be a "pioneer."

If they are able to slap this game together by its projected release date, other preorder bonus offers will be made available to take advantage of.

NOT giving them a penny till I see what the "Suckers of Ganareth" say on the official boards over the next few months.
