No NA Servers for Character Creation

Electro057Electro057 Member UncommonPosts: 683

So I've finally got the time to make a character, and I've gone through the process.....

And I got to the server select, and all the NA servers say "This world is currently not accepting any new characters." And I've checked the list 5 times now, every server says that...And I've renewed my list at least 20 times over the past few hours....

How am I supposed to play with people in my region? It was bad enough I can't play with all my friends on Balmung, now I can't play on North American servers at all?

Also....There are tons of open Japanese Servers....Five or six I could select on my last refresh.

no NA servers for anything. No new characters and no access to existing ones.

I tried a japanese server but people over there just run around silent. Nobody says a word, im not playing a single player game to stay in a silent server.

Yeah it's bad man, the game is good, but the server problem is a debacle.  Unreliable queue system (or no existent) and you can't even make new toons on NA servers.  That is a monumentally huge problem.

Guess they just weren't expecting such an enthusiastic response from NA players at launch. Other game devs made similar mistakes in the past, took Blizzard months to solve them at launch.

Yeah....And I can understand launch issues, it's reasonable to take a week or even a month to iron out the kinks and the bugs in the woodworks. But at the same time usually you can at least make a character XD Even if it's at risk of losing progress and rollbacks and the such. I'm not really upset or anything, I just wanted to be able to make a character before work is all :/

This is what makes it so completely inexcusable that Square would fail so completely on this point.

    Pro Tip for MMO Developers:

Announce ahead of time you are setting up 10 times the number of servers you expect to need and that you will intentionally combine these over the following weeks to more evenly distribute the game's post launch population. How hard is this to figure out developers?

Another thing they needed to do...kick idle players...15min of nothing and your out the server.  Not saying the jerks who afk all day so they can play later wont get around it...but it helps.

You have a LOT of people who rather than logging off...just AFK which makes it even harder for people to get on.

Yep. There are people who are logged in 24 hours a day and AFK for a lot of it, simply to avoid the risk of being locked out.  This should not be permitted.
