I do like the game, when I'm able to play it. However, this launch has been terrible, and really at a critical time when people are just trying to trust SE after the version 1. I left them a nice 0 star review on Metacritic, which they definitely deserve for essentially begging us to trust them and then immediately screwing up.
I've been playing MMO's since Meridian 59 and The Realm, and this sort of launch was the norm in the early days (Anarchy Online, anyone?) However, I can't remember a recent launch that has had these kinds of problems. If you can only play in peak hours, then this has basically been three to four days of downtime, which would have been ridiculous even in 2001. Given that they already had ONE bad launch, it's unbelievable that it's this bad a second time around.
Let the brutality begin. I'm sure the MMO community will show its true colors once again.
No doubt he and his family have already received death threats.
All over a stupid video game that spoiled men and children aren't able to play.
If you're a celebrity in any sense..you're gonna receive death threats. Not saying that's ok, it's not, it's a disgusting part of our society. But the point I'm making is it's not just the "MMO Community". Just look at the death threats the guy received for fumbling (the 49ers player), the death threats Mark Sanchez gets..
They f'in care, they put their hearts and souls into this game, and it MF shows. This is why myself and countless others are so enamoured with this game.

Truly, this game is just awesome. My friend and I are hopelessly addicted to it. We piss and moan that we can't login, but it doesn't even matter because we are thrilled that this game exists, that our new addiction is here and it's here to stay for a long while.

I really want to be mad at you for posting this as I have had trouble logging on, unfortunately I agree wholeheartedly with you. I really love playing this game.
I don't know about anyone else, but the frustration of having trouble logging in its quickly erased by the jubilation when I finally get in. Best MMO I have played in 6 years.
MMOs will always suffer these problems on launch day (and beyond). That's all there is to it, and no amount of complaining or "voting with your hard-earned dollars" will change that. MMOs as a genre have been around for +/- 15 years now; in that time, there have been perhaps ONE OR TWO truly error-free, "smooth launches".
If people have not yet figured out that an MMO will always, always, always, ALWAYS have launch day problems, no matter how long beta was, then they have only themselves to blame for their unhappiness when launch day rolls around.
Originally posted by Elevenb4 I'd be crying too if I knew that the launch of their "Rebirth" would be this bad. I know this will cost them a lot of players. I'm not one that's leaving, I plan on being here for awhile, but at the same time I'm more than a little frustrated with being able to play about a total of 6 hours since early access.
actually i doubt it will cost them a single long term player that they would want as a customer. maybe itll cost them a hand full of 1 monthers. the masses you are thinking of are the forum trolls that will never actually play it regaurdless, saying its why they didnt play it.

People like you shouldnt be allowed to leave reviews, because you are dishonest.
The game is clearly not a 0 by any stretch of the imagination. If you don't like the old school game play, I can see it being a 6.
You know what FFXIV doesnt have? Bugs. Lag. Crashes. The game is better made than 90% of MMO launches.
The honest thing to do is give the game the score it deserves and mention the log in issues in the review, or withhold the review until the login issues are fixed. but you would rather let your emotions get the better of you and be a liar.
The fact you compare this launch to 1.0 shows your lack of understanding of the situation, possibly fueled by your rage. 1.0 was an incomplete, horrible game. 2.0 is a well made game plagued by issues related to congestion.
The lack of a queue is astonishing and unfathomable. But the game is a 7.5 give or take a point and a half depending on personal preferences.
Children need to stop overreacting, we havent even seen what they will give as compensation. We also know SE knows how to run a game long term, FFXI is proof of that. Not saying they get a free pass (I expectt a free month which costs them millions), but throwing a temper tantrum and trying to drag a company (who has busted their ass with this game) down because you couldnt play a couple of days is being a shitty human being.
Can people please stop reciting RIFT as an example for an amazingly smooth launch? Read through a few of these threads and seriously if you were actually there, those wouldn't be the words you would use to describe it.
While i don't want to be to harsh on SE but I cant seem to fathom why they don't have assets in place to open new servers as needed, nor why there is no Queue system. ( or afk lockout....)
Thankfully this all has nothing to do with the quality of the game---but it does speak people running it on some lvl.
Hopefully this gets patched up in the next few days and we are reimbursed for loss of the free 30 day window.

TBH. I havent seen a developer react this strongly to a game they help create in a long time. It shows a huge passion for the industry which many devs are lacking. The server structure sucks but the game is amazing.
Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships Waiting on: Ashes of Creation
They are already going to try and up their servers. However still noone gets that if they get to much servers or to strong servers.. aafter a while the population will lower and they will have to close worlds of ahve alot of unused serverstrenght
This game is excellent. I hate that these issues are occurring but I would still rather spam the log in button knowing whats waiting for me than play anything else.
I'd be willing to bet Yoshi will at least try to give us some more free days because of this. They obviously surpassed their own modest expectations for pre-release sales, and more free time shouldn't be seen as a loss in my opinion.

really that really isnt fair i hope you change it if they fix the issues by next week and give us some compensation

hence they only need to add a few more serves and strengthen there duty finder /instance server

the server structure is pretty good to be honest theres just not enough servers hardware for the amount of people that are trying to play
Originally posted by karmath So we can expect FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, Reborn Again 2.0 in a few years?
Depends on how many of the near 1million players currently playing the game leave.
If you have not heard the game is so full people cannot log in, every zone has multiple hundreds of people in it with virtually no lag and very very few minor bugs present in game... not exactly the sign of a failing mmo or one that people are quiting.
This game is failing as hardcore as WoW did at its launch atm. A good sign honestly.
1.0 was plauged by a garbage game design and engine but has a solid launch more or less. Population was way lower then expected.
2.0 has more content and polish then anygame launched in the last 6yrs, but the servers are failing because there are almost double the projected players.
Real big difference between version 1 and 2... People are not mad about the game itself, they are pissed about not being able to play said game... meaning they want to play.

Yoshi P is the producer - works for SE on FFXIV:ARR exclusively.
Rift is a bad example to use.
Right when I log into a city in FFXIV I see hundreds of players.
If I log into a Rift city I see green condoms.
