What are you talking about WoW had perfect launches with their last couple expansions

    /sarcasm

Yes, WoW had tons of issues which lasted over a month.  I remember getting the game for Christmas that year.  God what a nightmare of a christmas that was.  Downloading at a crawl and servers being full.

A month?  WoW's servers were still a complete disaster a year and a half after launch.  And probably a lot longer than that, but that's when I quit.

WoW loot bug was horrendous for the year.

Yes Wow had a rough launch....in 2004!!!  Back when there were only a handful of MMOS and none that had launched with the numbers of Wow.  SE has had not only their own failed launch in 2010 to study and learn from along with all the AAA launches of the past 9 years!  It's pathetic that their launch is as bad or worse than Wow in 2004!

The original launch offered very little useful information(the game was basically pronounced dead on arrival do to ui lag alone.  And, they weren't there for the back end of things for other games.

It was also on a different engine and probably different server infrastructure.

So if they had 250 empty servers you could play on, but the world was empty would you be happy?

If you were stuck in queue for 17.5 hours to only get a time out kick, would you be happy?

What I find funny is that there was little to no hype for this game, yet lo and behold EVERYBODY seems to want to pay. Huh?

On this site it was second in hype before launch :P.  I think it just shows there is a silent majority for this game.

Wow's launch was around 9 years ago, what does it have to do with anything here? I can't recall a single launch where a significant amount of people were unable to play for this long of a stretch. The norm is a few hours with no play, not days at a time.

Hey, if he didnt specify what he meant by "this" then how am I supposed to give any reasons?  Assuming he meant that on wow release people could not login for hours at a time because the servers were capped, and no one could create any characters, then no that did not happen at wow release.  I was there at wow release.  The problems were

    1. getting stuck looting.  lasted about a week

    2. some servers had lag.  not all of them.  lasted about 2 weeks.  Long enough that I rerollled on a new server - but at least I could play.

    3. the boats didnt work.  lasted 2 years intermittently in various incarnations.

None of these problems amounted to the incredible difficulty of people not being able to play at all and/or not being able to play on the same server as their friends.  Not even close.

Or their server capacity is just really low...

    Pretty much yes.

This game had gotten so much bad press the past couple years due to the Version 1.0 debacle and rightfully so!

They really did turn it into an amazing game! It runs silk smooth and extremely efficient.

I really think they were totally caught off guard With this launch of Version 2.0 and didn´t expect this HUGE interest in the game.

LOL! Are you serious? AION had massive problems at launch. Give me a break!

Anyone forgot the arrogance and rudeness of NCSoft West during the first couple weeks?

ALL servers were FULL With 3 hours + Queues and them refusing to open up more servers!

They FLATOUT told us to suck it up and wait it out until the first month rush was over.

The result was that tons of players were just putting up a shop and selling crap for 999999999 so they could stay logged in 24/7 to bypass the Queue.

Come on now. Some People really have serious memory blackouts around here.

SW:TOR launch was a TOTAL fiasco as well. Or did you already forgot about the outrage on the entire internet With the Whole staged Access to the servers during Early Access? With a lot of People having to wait until last day of Early Access to finally be able to get into the game and pretty much lost their entire Early Access period!

Or how about Warhammer Online? The European Launch was a COMPLETE FAILURE! Their EU partner were a bunch of morons! Non-working account system, so People couldn´t register their codes due to constant errors and server problems!

The entire week of Early Access was a loss for all EU players! There was such an outrage on the entire internet, that Mark Jacobs himself had to come over to the European forums and fansites to appologize and them having to send over NA Mythic employees to France to help code a working account system!

In the end, they just had to kill the contract and migrate the handfull of EU players left to Mythic´s account system and servers.

Anyone expecting a flawless launch is dillusional for sure. However, I do feel they could of done a lot better with many things so far. A lot of what happened is quite bad and is through faulty planning for the most part. I still excuse it being mmo release, but its still one of the weakest AAA launches in years. Given then fix the issues up though quickly, it can redeem itself on that end.
  • rojoArcueidrojoArcueid Member EpicPosts: 10,722
i dont know because i didnt play WoW at launch. But every mmo launch ive played has been crappy (some worst than others but all crappy). Ive seen some people trying to get a refund because of these log in issues.... clearly they've never played an mmo during launch....

By your siggy, I swore you would of claimed GW2 didn't either. Sorry, I blame fanbois of that from lowering my expectations of people who have GW2 signatures. XD Anyways!

Both games DID have problems at launch, though both over-all didn't have very many. They ran quite smooth for certain. SWTOR's issues for the most part was in its design rather then its launch (the ability lag). Aion as far as I remember was actually extremely well executed. I believe there was some over-crowding, but it actually ran quite well with the normal launch hiccups being the only real issue. No where near the 'massive' the person above claims of course.

  • mcrippinsmcrippins Member RarePosts: 1,642
I played from the first day WoW opened after getting my CE from gamestop at 9am. Had practically no issues. Infact I even hit 60 in the first month. So my answer to your question is No. In comparison, WoW's launch was fairly smooth. There were initial issues with 1 server which all of the top guilds originally planned to play on, but once Blizz got word about that - they shut it down for 3 days, so everyone would disperse.

I just refreshed people´s memories here. Maybe you should read the person´s post I was quoting?

All I am saying is that this launch is far from the worst I have experienced.

Sure they botched up! They heavily underestimated the interest in this game.

The excuse SE has however, is that they honestly did not expect this huge interest in the relaunch!

And frankly! Me neither. I am highly suprised to see how many People trying this game right now! It´s like FFXIV 1.0 never happened.

I wanted to buy the PC Collector´s edition for the artbook and authenticator, didn´t pre-order as I thought it would not be necessary, after all the bad press of Version 1.0 the past years. But I was shocked yesterday to find out it´s sold out everywhere! Not a single shop has a CE edition left in Stock anymore!

Its expected for every mmo developers to be complete morons when it comes to launch time.

They never prepare, NEVER, for big amount of players. Most leave the games download for the exact launch day causing massive slowness for the clients massive size. Many, ohh so MANY don't prepare the websites account systems for the super mega increase in traffic it will receive that day.

And THEY NEVER start with many servers. It plain and simple. Every mmo will always start with less servers than it actually needs. They never open extra "temp" servers for the first few months game rush and fake popularity. The honeymoon time so to speak.

Find me a mmorpg that did and you win the internets prize.
