My MMO commandments. Feel free to disagree!
1. MMO’s are tough for developers to get right out of the gate.
2. As paying customer’s we have the right to be frustrated about launch issues and complain.
3. If the game is worth playing, then it is worth waiting a week or two to play.
4. If you want your money back because you can’t play on day one, you should get it back. However, DO NOT ask to come back when it’s running smoothly.
5. The developers know that customers who can’t play are frustrated and that they will complain, so they work as hard as they can to fix it.
6. All of the emotion that occurs on launch day is due to both gamers and developers being equally passionate about games. It’s a good thing!

I agree with all points. Get out of my head!!
I have no issue with what's going on with XIV, the game is fantastic imo. But i also understand people's frustrations and respect their decision to demand refunds, etc...
In the end, I get to play an amazing game either way... albeit a little later than expected
BUT ! This is there 2nd Time here !

Your right on your points except I will say that just because MMO's are difficult to launch smoothly we shouldn't give a pass to companies when they drop the ball. SE's launch issues are a result of poor planning and execution and since this is the 2nd time launching this game and the 3rd MMO they have launched they should have done a much better job than they did. I think they as a organization really need to take a close look at the root causes of what leads to these kinds of issues and they won't do that unless the public at large dings them for things like this.
Also honest question about waiting. I'm not playing FF XIV and it will likely be a month or so before work affords me the time to take this game up. Given that there really isn't a need for alts and that the story progression is locked to group zones do you think in 2 months or so it will be possible to finish the early dungeons?
Yes, there should be enough lower lvl classes being played for ages.
If your not emotionally prepared for disappointments at launch then your an idiot. That doesn't mean they get a free pass, but the reactions from some only make sense if they've never seen an mmo launch before. At least this time the issues are worth putting up with. I couldn't get onto my server, so i played another, and when the servers where down I played some STO, and when into that "outside" place with all the trees and fresh air.
I'm curious to see their launch numbers. Considering they have 50 servers currently, and almost every single one of them is full. They've also had to suspend Digital Sales. I mean.. It has to be RRREEEAAAALLLLLLYYYYY bad for a company to stop sales on a product to allow themselves time to adequately catch up and make things run smoothly.
But as the OP states, the issues are there, but if we are patient they WILL be resolved. And also its because the game is pulling off the impossible. No one gave this game a second chance save a few hardcore FF fans.
Their "full" servers do not have that many players. I think they really limited the numbers to increase server stability.
When I was on before the restriction, I couldnt even kill a mob in a lvl 5ish zone. It was that packed. After the restrictions, the world was a much emptier place. Which was nice for questing.
Guess it will take some time to see where populations settle.
I have the unfortunate pleasure of being on Gilgamesh. And it doesn't matter where you go...... There are people everywhere. Level 29 fate at 8AM EST, 20+ people. I don't know how it is on other servers, but the one I play is just absolutely packed at all times of the day.
