Are there zones, or is the terrain seamless? If there are zones, how large are they? What is the loot system like - I prefer WoW over GW2, I don't like similar stats across the board on all items... And I prefer finding rare, epic loot through farming. I can't stand the loot hunt in GW2, it's the only feature of that game that makes it boring for me.

there are zones, but SE implemented a Fast Loading system so sometimes loading times are 1 second (with enough ram) The system consist on start loading the next map when u are close to map transition zone.
Loot is like other MMO, Need, Greed, Pass. The main leveling way is using Dungeons (16 leveling dungeons) so you can level up from 15 to 50 just doing dungeons. Need is only aviable if you can equip that gear.
The way zones are like Wow or EQ2. The loot, definitely looks like Wow or EQ2 type, as in theres the regular gear, the quest gear, the crafted gear, and the regular dungeon gear and also the rare raid gear.
I know what you mean with GW2. It was so boring. I felt you got no rewards for anything. All that dropped was complete junk in anything you did. At no point did I feel or get excited about looting in GW2 because it was so unrewarding. Complete waste of time in my opinion.
FFXIV is complete opposite. If you driven by gear, this will suite your needs. Your not going to buy the end gear stats off the market like GW2...you need to earn it.
FFXIV is heavily zoned. Areas are very small and even the cities have multiple zones.
Also, prepare for a shit ton of invisible walls.
Woah, that freaks me out - are we talking SWTOR!? Because SWTOR was/is a fail-and-a-half. I hated the invisible walls, it was completely disturbing, is it that bad!?
It's not that bad, you are far less restricted than you would be in say TERA, also loading isn't much of a big deal, then again I play on PS3 so it's to be expected from my perspective
No, it's not. Not even in the same ballpark.
Zones are of varying size, cities do have multiple zones but you can use the Aethernet system to quickly teleport instead of hopping multiple zones.
Invisible walls do exist when there is nothing to jump to. This is to prevent you from getting stuck or falling into an area you can't get out of. When multiple tiers exist, you may jump down and you will take fall damage (depending on height of jump). If you are normally capable of jumping on to something and it is within the bounds of the map - you may do so.
Zones remind me of a Console RPG. But its Final Fantasy those games always had load screens. But it feels nothing like SWToR even the small areas dont feel as cramped as AoC or Swtor; plus the loading time is real quick. Makes the zoning feel like a design issue and not a technical issue like SWTOR which killed any joy over having a space ship. Also probably has to do with the IP, FF has always been like the state fair of theme parks.
Now ive only seen the newbie areas so It might get bigger
Yes, anything that can be sat on, you simple go next to it and hit emote called sit or type /sit and he or she sits down If there is nothing to sit on, they simple sit on floor with legs crossed. You can even lie down in bed, when you get your home in the future Take that SWTOR!
This game is heavily zoned...even the smallest cities are divided in three for no apparent reason. There are even quite a few invisible walls. It definitely isn't any better than SWTOR, possibly worse.
Yes to the sitting part. I sat on a bench yesterday by walking up to it, facing the opposite direction and typing /sit. It isn't like in WoW where there's a gear and you right click.
Life of an MMORPG "addict"
For 7 years, proving that if you quote "fuck" you won't get banned.
It's not seamless.
A lot of zones. More than GW2, in fact…in GW2, Once Lion's Arch or Divinity's Reach loaded, you could explore the zone totally. Here in FF 14 Reborn the towns are made of smaller zones put together (with transition time - even small - which is annoying considering that sometimes I do not know where to go for a quest / which zone to go through) at least it's what I remember from the BETA
