Does it matter if it is not a MMO?
It looks interesting .. and it will have sci-fi RPG elements. So if it is anything like Borderlands with a different look, i am more than happy to try.
Well were you wildly excited by Global Agenda, Defiance, and Borderlands? If so, I could understand being excited by Destiny.
Personally I felt each of those experiences fell flat due to progression being a weak match with FPS mechanics (especially in Borderlands' case) and coop FPS gameplay being hard to do right (especially in GA's case.)
I think a better goal to shoot for is something more like Left4Dead, where the coop mechanics are a strong focus (being downed or incapacitated in that game, or helping someone who is, is an extremely satisfying coop moment.) And that can be presented in the strongest light if progression elements are weak (lateral progression) or nonexistent (L4D).

I agree here.
But also agree with Axe.
Stuff like this usually makes the PvE Crappy. Events are always easy in FPS like this.
Also is this really a MMO? How many people can interact with each other at the same time. thats the question that should have been asked.

Yes is matters. Because unless you like being scammed (hint look at my sig)
People who are looking for a MMO, want just that, a MMO. Not a non MMO.

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Why not just look for a game that's fun to play and not worry about only playing games that fall inside a particular box?
Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
Now Playing: None
Hope: None
This.
I doubt many players ask specifically for MMOs, and nothing but MMOs.
Personally i don't really care if a game is a MMO .. i do care if it is fun.
This site is not just about MMOs .. otherwise why would there be forums for D3, LoL, and so on.
And if you open your mind, ARPG is quite close in playstyle in the pve dungeon run aspect of MMO. LoL is quite close in playstyle to arena.
Many types of online games are "close enough" to MMO and it is silly to ignore them. Otherwise why would there be discussions of whether Destiney & Division are MMO or not.
Well something like D3 is clearly not a MMO. If this site wants to do a forum for that game its the staffs decision, but I doubt any of them would argue D3 is a MMO. We have had MMOFPS on and so forth, but I think you are trying to expand the term to any game online you like, which is a bit much. An ARPG is aptly named, its up to the staff if they want to showcase those games.
I don't examine the hype on up coming games too much so I don't know much about Destiny, but you have mentioned it before. As I said I don't mind players wanting to talk about games they like or think will be good, talk about anything you want. But it does matter if its a MMO on a MMO site.
No one is saying D3 is a MMO. "quote close" is not exactly "the same" is it?
It is no just D3. There are plenty of non-MMOs here .. D3, PoE, WoT, LoL .. the list goes on and on.
And there are plenty of topics about non-MMOs ... and personally i really don't care about definitions .. but if you do .. keep your posts straight. But people are not going to stop talking about non-MMOs, particularly when the playstyles of many non-MMOs are so close to MMOs.
And yet people talk about Destiny, Division, LoL, WoT, and a huge bunch of non-MMO games (but with some MMO elements).
I don't see posts about LoL or WoT being banned here, do you?
Destiny is a MMO, it has a persistent world element. It's also a single player / coop game separate from the MMO world. The Division will likely be a MMO also as it takes place in a large persistent world. Same goes for The Crew. These aren't limited lobby based games.
Nari is like a console fan who keeps talking about console games on a PC site. We know he loves his games, but they don't always fit the site bless him.
im certain Destiny will be my Destiny for some time.
The only thing i dont like about everything we have seen is that its First Person and it doesnt offer Third Person... that is a huge disappointment for me, but not a deal breaker.
Oh and the weapon skill tree they showed at E3 really needs to be modified. Right now is one linear sequence, i really want the freedom to choose what skill i want to upgrade on my weapon (kinda like Defiance did with the EGO tree)
