Coming back after quitting 7'ish months ago, getting my bearings. What's changed?

I played the game from launch into about 2-3 months when my guild buddies decided they were done with their FOTM game, and I quit out of annoyance that they quit. :p

Anyway, I came back. I have an 80 Engineer, still sitting around with my full mix of whatever the 5-man dungeon gear I got at the time (Shaman reward gear it looks like). I still enjoy the rifle/grenade power/precision stuff so I'll probably stick with that, but I've noticed there are more healing engineers now so something must've made that more viable (eek, would hate for the pow/prec/tough gear I have to go to waste respeccing healing engi, even though it looks fun).

What are people doing now that's different? When I left, people were jumping in groups farming that end-game open world zone with MF gear for drops (I still have my MF suit in inventory, hurrah!), going from event to event as they popped up on the map, and then maybe running a dungeon when they saw someone spamming in chat for it. Is that still what end-game players are doing? Or has it become more organized "I need to get in a guild to do endgame content"?

Also, if I did want to switch from my rifle/grenade power/precision build/gear to the pistol/shield healing build, is the dungeon gear I have just going to pretty much go in my bank and I'll start out with low-end gear for those stats off the AH? Or can I disenchant this dungeon gear I won't be using to get something useful out of it?

Thanks for any answers. I see this place is as always filled with jaded gamers. I'm one that's coming back to have fun in my spare time. :)

I actually just got back to the game myself, quit a few months after release too.

and i wanted to share those few anwsers iv got!

right now ppl tend to do the Invasion event thingy that pops up from time to time for gold and items.

and Fractals are a thing too, a sort of dungeon where stuff becomes progressivly harder and harder with every completion kinda. nice loot and gear here.

also do normal dungeons find some gear that looks nice and spam that dungeon.

WvWvW is also alot of fun if you ask me, try the eternal battelground.

you can get dirt cheap lvl 78 excotic gear from the auction house that actually is almost as good as the real deal.

    cheeeeeeeeeeers

: edit :  Ooooh and get into a fun guild with voice chat.. its all about the guild

Sadly, yes.  There is also Fractals, WvW, SPvP, and regular Dungeons.  There is also some Guild content, such as Guild Bounties too.  Otherwise, if you want the latest and newest rewards, then do the current Living Story.  If you want to farm events for gold and items, do the Clockwork Chaos event alongside the Champion rotations in certain zones, such as Queensdale.

    Thanks for the replies.

Has crafting become worth the time yet? When I played, I perceived it as something not with a very worthwhile "return on time", meaning you're competing with the whole server on the auction house, and the only gate is time, so it's pretty much a race to the bottom with just making a bit above resource cost. Or am I way off and crafters are making good return on their time in this game?

I loved crafting in SWG, I know this game doesn't have anything like that, but I don't mind crafting and playing the market, that's a fun side game, as long as it's worth it. I just don't really see where a crafter can avoid that race to the bottom in this game, and thus why bother? Even when I was re-gearing my char yesterday with level 80 exotic crafted armor, I saw 1000+ pieces for sale on most of it. Eek.
