Tried the game in beta and i knew then we wouldn't become friends, It was just the same old stuff that you see in 30 other Themeparks.
The biggest gripe i had was the actual combat, it's damn awful, it's so slow i couldn't believe my eyes and the damn sound when you spam a button (you can't turn that shit off) was the last drop, i didn't bother leveling past lvl 12.
I also didn't warm to the story, it was just too cheesy for me.
I do not understand how people can say the combat is so slow of we dont even know yet how fast we will be able to make it.
Does it start slow? Yes it does even tho with all the movement you have to do in order to get your attacks out from the right side it doesnt even feel that slow (in my opinion) however who knows how low we will be able to get the GC.
Thats actually one of the things i like very much the fact that the combat for my higher lvl jobs will feel different than the combat for the low lvl jobs.It gives me a feel of progression.
I wonder how people can have a problem with the map it shows everything in my opinion even too much i would like for the quest locations to not show up.
How could you not be able to navigate using the map? Did you ever read a real map? Can you read at all?
The last thing is the long intro with boring quests well i agree its long and boring but i dont blame SE for it i blame the players.
In FF14 1.0 we had no hand holding and holy cow was the whining loud on the servers with players (most of them thinking of themself as elite) not knowing what to do they didnt even know how to open the map....so SE had to react they had to make the intro long and tedious so that all the players who can not even open map get the help they need....well joke is on SE isnt it?
Now players can open the map but still lack the ability to read it lol
Haha i agree, if it is not one thing it is another, this si the problem we have in this community nowadays, you can never make em happy
Personally i like it when i played in beta and will definately be buying it when i am finished moving house, i love the fact that it can be a challenge if played solo which let's face it is what most ppl do these days, strikes me why they even bother playing an mmo if all they really do is solo, but then again half of the time is the games in general at fault for making so much solo content, i can't really fault the game, my experience was great in beta and once the birthing kinks are ironed out with release i'm sure it will be a pleasant ride again, all people have to realize is that if you were not or are not an FF fan then yo umay very well not like this game, not necessarily a bad thing but each game has it's niche crowd or fanbase.
All i can suggest for those that wish to try it, do so for yourself, don't rely on others opinions because it could be the gem you are missing or it could just be another mmo on the market.
I treat my games like i treat real life, i am a grown ass man who makes my own judgments and decisions, always have and always will, not about to let anyone sway me one way or another, it is a part of life to make mistakes or to triumph don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Now I'm finally in the game, i can sort of see what the O/P means. The trouble is we have all had our hands held so tightly in these games, most of us have lost the patience or ability to actually look and learn without the aid of in - game markers.
Sure the ubiquitous exclamation/question marks are there, it does all seem rather crudely done though. So far i'd say its a deeper learning curve (took me a few minutes to suss out how to disable the annoying tooltips for spells, then seconds later when i levelled up I had to re-able it to see what the hell my new spell did - very annoying).
In fact to be honest so far the whole game looks rough and feels somewhat clunky (2.5 sec gcd is effin annoying as hell).
I'm gonna persist, at least for the first month. Most likely I'll head back to wow as soon as 5.4 hits the servers, depending on whether the game grabs me between now and the 10th sept.

I don't understand a response like this. You went out of your way to disable tooltips for spells, then you get frustrated when you can't see a tooltip for your new spell?

Come on man, that's just silly.
My point was the tooltip blocks (no totally eclispes) part of the screen, it needs a minimalist tooltip plus the disable once the player has all the spells memorised.
As I said, I'm gonna persist (made it out of town easy enough lol), it is a bit like stepping back to some older mmo's though.
I've played many MMO's I know what I'm talking about , I said that right, Right?
If you enjoy running around a highly confusing instanced town for hours on end reading a barrage of meaningless text then this game is for you. And if you eventually find the exit then I hope the experience gets better. I doubt it. Meh
Meh the tutorial area isn't all that long, but I think it's clear you didn't get through it.
He said he didn't even get out of the city, he's obviously trolling.
Well why on earth would you torture yourself to continue playing further if you obviously don't like what you've played in the first hours of gameplay?!
I sure as hell wouldn't even consider keeping the game installed after I'd conclude it's not something I enjoy playing.
Why is having a bad opinion about the game instantly considered trolling on this forums by some people? I always like to read negative posts more than all-positive posts. :P

Hard to believe that Wow ever made it to 13 millions subscribers considering all I did when I started was run around killing wolves and boars with 1-4 attacks. Then move to the next area and repeated....
Considering the common belief that a themepark mmorpg doesn't even start until "endgame"(I don't agree with this) how much can you trust the opinion of someone that "reviewed" a game based on running around the start area? Not to mention if you don't care about the story you can Esc>Skip and continue like you're playing any other game.
After putting A LOT of hours into the game I can honestly say that the cutscenes make up about 1% of what I've done. It is a very standard mmo. Quests, events, dungeons, and all that good mmo stuff. Just need to be patient for a few minutes at the beginning. Plus the map only seems confusing at first. Once you get the hang of the game you start to see just how well everything is designed.
BTW a little knowledge of the game would have helped him a lot. You don't even need side quests to level one class. If he had done the first 3-4 little "run around" story quests he would have been sent out into the world to start killing stuff in about 4 minutes. And if he was really impatient he could have done only the first quest then ran right back to where he entered the game and left the city. I guess it's just easier to know nothing about a game, be too stupid to navigate a city with 2 sections(YES ONLY 2 sections) then come to the forums to bash it. Sounds like a troll to me.
Personally, I like the game. Would be silly to go into a new game with any kind of expectations if I didn't know anything about it.
Originally posted by k-damage I love how Op's "review" only talks about graphics and music, in a 10 lines paragraph. Now that's serious journalism.
I think "OMG THE START AREA IS CONFUSING AND NPCs TALK TO MUCH" is too indepth. I think for WildStar, EQN, and ESO he should review their world design, class design, leveling content, dungeons, crafting, and endgame content based on his feelings of the Character Creation screen. After all, it's fair to judge a game without knowing how the actual game is.
