5 MB Cable Conn and still patching about 24 hours and counting... {sighs}

Hey, as an SOG settler, I'd love to tell you my first impressions of the Dark and Light world, but hey I'm still patching the game at a snail speed connection with their mighty patcher.
Yesterday evening I decided to log on about 2 hours before the promised server start and patch any last minute needed files. I didn't think there would be much patching as I just downloaded their client Friday.
So knowing that the servers were promised to start at 11:pm (Mountain time) last night, (0600 GMT) I logged in about 20 minutes before 9pm and ran the DnL launcher. It quickly booted up to tell me that I needed some 278 new files, and started downloading them. Now the launcher is STILL up almost 24 hours later. Keep in mind that I have a very fast 5MB Cable connection, and typically download stuff at 500KB+ per second. Well here I look at this mighty patcher tonight, I am file 242 out of 278 (of which this 242nd file is some 633 MB) and it is downloading these files at a lightning fast 6.37 kb/sec! Woooo! My 97 year old grandmother stirs molasses and oats in her big wooden bowl faster then this. My grass grows faster under the 3 inches of solid ice in my yard faster then this. Even George W Bush thinks faster then this, which is now getting scary as hell.
I look at the total progess bar on the patching, and looks like I'm about 1/3 way patched up. So continuing to let my computer work 24/7.. I expect to have it fully patched and ready to play in maybe another 2 days and 2 nights or so.
I'll let people know what I think of this damn game as soon as it ever gets started.. But I won't hold my breath.
So far from the promises on the forums, and from this mighty patcher and the high tech download system they used, I'd rate this game as PATHETIC and give it a big fat juicy F. But hey, I have yet to play their game, and I'm sure that will be almost as rewarding as watching their exciting patcher fly at a blinding 6 kb/sec.
But it's good 'cuz I know something's gotta give soon. Somethings gotta happen. Either I'll DIE of old age waiting or we'll actually get this game ready to actually play something. I think I'll bet on death here and atleast I'll keep my money as a corpse laying in front of my computer

there was a fix posted for this issue. basically you delete the folder sog in teh launcher and replace it with the actual sog folder that you have dl'd. Hope this helps. YOu can find a more official fix elsewhere.
Did ya install the launcher first? also make sure when ya installed SOG.exe ya placed it in c:program filesdark and lightlauncher If ya didnt then thats why its downloading all that.
You should only have to download 10mb or around there. Reinstall SOG.exe and make sure to point it to the launcher dir in dark and light.
Hmm, no I followed the instructions they had on the site the other day. I DL'd the launcher first. Then I put the SOG folder I installed in the Launcher folder as it said to do. Musta done something wrong. Poop. Anyhow, thanks guys.

Yep at times I am. I am working 60 hours a week, raising a 3 year old and a 4 month old I am currently feeding a bottle and trying like hell to try out this game I've been anticipating for so long. So I'm an idiot. Looks like I forgot to double click the SOG download after I moved it into the launcher folder.
We all make errors and stupid mistakes at times.
- that is unless your ummm "preka" who is ofcourse perfect and never forgot something or made a mistake.

if you goto program files/dark n light/ launcher and open the sog file then
compare that to the one sog file on your desktop you will notice it doesnt
have all the files so i just selcted all files from the sog on my desktop
and dropped them in the other sog folder then it was quik dl hope this helps

Sure, I make mistakes - and when something is obviously not working as expected, I go back and re-read the instructions and see where I went wrong.
See, your mistake wasn't your failure to actually install the game - your mistake was primarily in the tone of your post.
You opted to post an accusatory bitchfit instead of saying, "Hey, I have a problem, can someone help?" That being the case - and since the problem was ultimately your own fault - you deserved a bit of ridicule.
