For those bringing up how the LFG tool should have been on day 1, why don't you look back at what this MMO had on day 1 and compare with those that launched with an LFG tool. Developing DE's isn't a joke, for example.
Obviously the LFG tool wasn't as important as the other features they pushed for launch.
Even though there was a time where this was not in most MMOs, it has become a staple for the genre. I do not understand (especially how obsessive Anet is about their games) why this was not in at launch?! Either way it is great news.
FFXIV's Duty Finder is working great and that was part of their launch (now if you could only log in consistently each time LOL)

True.. I might get hammered on this, but it should become a staple now in the industry that a LFG is needed EVEN @ LAUNCH.. Yes i get the old MMO nostalgia of asking for group in chat etc, but having that option only isn't convenient for the wider populace.. Sorry if you can't have a LFG tool @ launch or 3months after interest die for some persons..
Also how hard is it to make said feature while the game is in development anyway...
yes it sucks it wasnt in during launch but it is coming in now..thats all that matters...whether you got bored with the game or not to say what arena net is doing with this game(living world, constant free content updates)isnt something special would be wrong.if they have added this much in one year what will it look like in 2 or 3?cant wait to find out.

LoL.. guess the Duty finder is there re-branding..
Also, its amazing that the server caps weren't set up for high pop and then ramp down after words..
One of the faster server ramp up i've seen was @ the launch of RIFT, within 3days more servers were coming online..
Is this not a hypocritical move by Arena Net after they made claims there game was removing the LFG with their brilliant game design? They said gamer's did not want to look for group, they wanted to jump right in and play, that was THEIR words. Now this tool makes it sound like lfg is needed meaning their whole pr speech was just bs?
They said that is why they removed the Trinity, players don't want to wait to setup groups.Well then a LFG tool should not be needed then right, otherwise it should have been there on launch and if your going to need it anyhow, might as well keep the Trinity system, since your design failed anyhow.
I want to make it clear,i have no problem with a lfg tool,i think it is a great idea,i have a problem with all the BS PR spins Arena NEt pull off, basically lying to the gamer's.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Well i lost interest on gw2 a month ago almost since to much stres of temporary never going back content were you get punished for not playing losing achievements and minis or skins (the real endgame of the game is collecting stuff, im not against it but since its condemned forever if u lose and update..)so if i cannot play gw2 for some time meansi lose part of the achievemtns and minis or skins forever, and i lose that story i will never play just because im not a hardcore daily player, sad because they said was a casual game, i was a gw2 fanboy not anymore sadly, so is good game but sadness for being incomplete just for not "being there" is not part of my definition of fun sorry

How many MMOs have a functional LFG system in their first year? Not many.
FF:XIV after the hiccups in early access, the Duty Finder works perfectly what a week after launch, try again mate.
Several points to make here.
Concerning FFARR, that duty finder has been far from perfect. Ignoring the server issues - which caused players to not be able to join any instances, personal or group - the dungeon finder suffers from a fundamental problem with the 1:1:2 tank:heal:dps ratio that causes dps to sit in queue for upwards of 70 minutes. The game's group composition expects 25% of players to play tanks, 25% to play healers, and only 50% to play dps, while the actual normal player ratios tend to be closer to 10:10:80 or 15:15:70. Moreover, the game's own class system doesn't support the 1:1:2 ratio the groups require, as from level 1-30, only 1/8 classes are allowed to queue as a healer, 2/8 as a tank, and 5/8 classes are stuck being dps. It also doesn't help that the duty finder simply won't allow me to queue as a healer on my arcanist, even though I can heal perfectly fine for all pre-30 content.
Sure, this has little to do with the functionality of the duty finder itself, but it 100% has to do with the functionality of grouping for dungeons in the game, which is the real complaint anyone who cries about GW2's lack of a duty finder is getting at. When it comes down to it, it's actually currently easier for *most* players (non tanks or healers) to find a group for anything they want in GW2 than it is in FFXIV, and I expect it will continue to be that way well into the future, as long as that party ratio is maintained.
But all of that is besides the point; there are plenty of games that have launched with fully functional LFG tools. The reason GW2 didn't launch with one was not because they couldn't design a good tool or because they didn't have enough development time or resources for the project. It was because a lot of what most dungeon finder tools do went against Anet's philosophy for GW2, a philosophy they clearly still maintain. (I can't find the pre-beta articles that talked about this because, well, they're all gone, but I distinctly recall one of their many blog posts addressing their stance toward a dungeon finder.)
What Anet didn't like about most dungeon finder tools was how they created a highly impersonal environment where players, while not exactly discouraged from communicating, weren't encouraged to communicate, bond, or even talk at all. Not only that, but, with most LFG tools (like FFXIV), the party usually instantly disbands after the dungeon is over, abruptly ceasing whatever social experience the players may have mustered. When these players are pulled from multiple servers (like FFXIV), and when cross-server chat is not enabled (like FFXIV), and when players across multiple servers aren't allowed to join each other at will (like FFXIV), it becomes all but impossible to actually meet new players and form those MMO friendships grouping is supposed to be all about in the grouping portion of the game through the dungeon finder tool. Moreover, most LFG tools destroy all sense of world immersion by instantly teleporting players to the mysterious dungeon location, which might as well not even exist in the world at all.
Luckily, it looks like Anet as stayed true to their philosophy (one that I have also been quite vocal about since WoW first introduced their dungeon finder in WotlK and I saw the damage it did), and GW2 will suffer from none of these problems!
For one, GW2 already inherently has social systems that allow players to play and talk with each other across servers at any time. So have no fear there, you can totally make friends with anyone you group with. But will GW2's dungeon finder be as impersonal as most other such systems? No, because it doesn't automatically do all the work for you. Players will see a list of groups available and have to either manually /join or verbally request an invite the traditional way. From there, once the party is fully put together, players still have to roll out to the dungeon (and give the go ahead to do so in party chat). The ice is broken from the beginning. People are talking. Seriously, don't underestimate the importance of getting players to say those first few words. World continuity is preserved; the dungeon has a place in the world.
As far as I can see, this is the best of both worlds. Players who hate having to stand around shouting for groups won't have to. This is 100% as convenient as any other LFG tool at finding groups. More importantly, it encourages a social experience (although if you don't want to talk, you don't have to; you can never be forced to talk) and promotes world continuity.
As someone who hates what dungeon finders have done to MMOs since they become prominent, I'm actually extremely excited for this.
LFG tools have zero to do with a lack of communication in dungeons and everything to do with the hyper-active combat system we see in most MMOs since the release of WoW.
GW2 is probably the most extreme example of this.
The only reason chat flowed so well in EQ was because the game's combat system allowed for players to fight, chat, and strategize at the same time.
"MMO's are social games - Grouping should be forced", "You need to join a guild", "PUG's are horrible experiences"...
Yet: "OMG game is doomed without a LFG tool to find some automatic way to be social without actually being social"?
Some people are just amusing :-)
As for the upcoming LFG tool: Don't really care, never felt it was something I was missing anyway.
give an mmo player a bowl of ice cream they will complain there is no chocolate syrup, give them the chocolate and they will complain there are not nuts, add the nuts and they ask where is the whipped creme

This should have been in the game by now and this article should instead be about guild halls or something even more awesome...still a great game no matter the flaws and the group finder will only help
Don't forget folks, they gave you this FOR FREE! Gotta hand it to Anet, they deliver the best and most free constant awesome content in the history of gaming. Im so glad they made a news article for this new feature. Cant wait to hear about the next major free thing they put in! Great work guys!

Except, y'know, they paid for a sundae. So where the hell -is- the whipped cream? The MMO market right now is in such a stagnant position because of settling for things that they did not pay for.

So does this tool warp you to dungeons?
Or do you have to join the group and then walk to the dungeon?
Just wondering....
That about sums it up.
this will be great. I love the gw2lfg.com website now, and this will make it great to simply do this in-game without the alt tab.
