So from claiming he'd shut down the game before going free to play to this:
"As a producer, I of course will be watching how the money flows and will evaluate the situation. If we had to change to a free to play model, we would probably offer a hybrid model with free to play servers and subscriptions servers, but it's not something we have planned right now."
Yeah he says no plans for it, but he also said never ever in a full essay about why he wont ever do it. So what if they did make a couple f2p servers then they blow up and SE forces all servers to go that way. I pack up again? I reall yhope this is just some BS he was throwing out to appease this guy in the interview.

Yoshida never said that. It is just the usual hardcore fanatics who were trying to put words in his mouth. Don't believe everything that FFXIV fans write on these forums. I mean these are the same people who used to say that they will never touch FFXIV if it turns out to be another typical MMO resembling WOW style of gameplay. (read it million of times when FFXIV 1.0 was released).
Don't take them too seriously.

Well I find it interesting that the adamant 'WE WILL NOT' has become 'if the situation warranted it we might....' Idle musing in an interview or not. We won't becomes we might if. What will it be in 6 months? Only the shadow knows......
Everyone thinks Yoshi is the man who makes policy. He may call the shots for design but the policy maker is and always will be the almighty dollar.
They decided to go the right 'PR route' with the current issues in stating that the free 30 day counter hasn't stated yet (had they not more people would be up in arms) but in the end once things are worked out, the thing that makes SE the most money will be what makes the decision as to the direction of the game be it P2P, F2P, Hybrid or Closed.
+1 just dont belive everythin on internet :>
think have to add at least another 5 years to that estimation, but even then, it sounded like they would have to bring up new servers that had the f2p model, having players on seperate servers based on whether they are f2p or p2p would just end up with the freepers being treated as second class citizens, which would be less than ideal.
