So is my razer naga an illegal 3rd party program since it uses a 3rd party program to bind keys to my mouse and possibly run scripts?

If you use it while you are afk it is.

I've always been able to log into the servers, except during maintenance downtimes of course, and usually right away or within a few minutes.

So I voted yes, people will be able to log in to both the new and old servers.

I predict that there will still be log in issues after the update but that they will not be as bad as before.  I'm not sure how many players there are that have still not created players on an old server who will be playing on the new servers, or who will be unwilling to abandon a character on an old server to create a new one on one of the new servers just to get a faster log in time.   If they were willing to offer a free transfer to a new server, I'd definitely do it if I knew I would have no log in issues whatsoever, but it does not sound like they are going to be offering free transfers anytime soon from what I've read.

As for fixing the duty finding, breaking the server structure down into "battlegroups" will have some positive impact but probably won't fix everything and that there will still be a few log in issues.  Hopefully they will just be limited to queueing and not outright denial of access to the game.  From what I've read though, I don't think they are fixing the queueing to allow for longer queues, which to me is their biggest mistake.  I'm not sure how many people will be able to tolerate it if there are still the "1017 - the servers are full, go away" message if it is still popping up even after the fixes.  It sounds like SE is trying to do things as cheaply as possible and hoping that they won't have to choose more expensive options to fix things, which could be a big gamble for them.

    On a NA server?

Wow, that is very different than my experience.  I only try to log in about 3 times and then give it an hour and try 3 more times.  I havent been able to get on for many, many days.  Not at all.  Last Wednesday was the last time I was able to play.

I refuse to sit there and spam login and I am not going to run a thing to automate the login process.  And when I am done playing, I dont go afk on the server.  For me, this means "no ffxiv for you!".

I really hope everything is worked out by Wednesday. Yesterday i really felt everyone's pain and frustration, being off last week i had no problems logging on in the morning, yesterday i never got on and eventually just walked away, gave up and am not trying again till such time.

    Till Wednesday.

    However

This isn't a matter of voting on opinion.

They stopped character creation for a reason.  And there is good reason that anyone who is playing, is enjoying a smooth and lag free game.

They reduced the amount of people able to connect to the game, to a number lower than their maximum connections during these congestion issues.

Once they get more servers, and more bandwidth, they will allow the servers to run at a higher capacity.

So this means that everyone who created a character will be able to log in.

I know this is a difficult concept to grasp for many as for some reason they see 20-50 afk people as the root of the issue.  Truth is...we should be more worried about lag when they unleash the full potential of the servers.

Oh and stopping character creation was done to prevent the situation of having more people on a server than the server can handle.  So once they stop restricting connections...everything should clear up.

You might get small queues still though.

More like a few hundred AFK'ers per server. image

Anyways, the reason it took them a week to try and resolve this traffic issue is just like you said, they received their new hardwares and will hook them all up Sept 4, so we should be seeing a crap load more bandwidth, therefor a lot less issues at log in.

And to the OP, I highly doubt that A LOT of people will flood on to the new servers (If they plan on releasing any new servers) JP Servers are doing fine since they are way more updated then the NA/EU ones, and since the game is based in JP it is to no surprise to me.   Never noticed how it's only the NA/EU server list that is always messed up but the JP server list is all nice and smooth like it's nobodies business? image

Nope JP is messed up just as much as NA/EU.

    Yep, on Goblin.

I played yesterday morning for a few hours, on Sunday for a little while in the morning and again at night, a good chunk of time on Saturday, Friday night...

Only day I had problems with the Sunday before launch cause the servers were under maintenance most of the day I think.

Took me 90 minutes to log on once, beyond that, even after 5pm on weekdays last week, took about 5-10 minutes of trying over and over again and I got on.

Could not login at all sunday or monday.  Spamming 0 only works if you can get the server list to stay loaded.

Removing AFKers would not fix the problem.  People AFK because its hard to login to begin with.  So to help those understand; AFKing only made the initial problem worse,  it is not the solution to fixing the problem.

It was really sad this morning when I woke up at 5 a.m. est, and deprived of being able to play Sunday or Monday, I thought I would do a few quests before I got ready for work.  I could not log in, it was very disappointing and my next opportunity to play will be Friday.   Hoping that the maintenance will fix log in servers and give some realms more stability.  Wouldn't hurt if they threw in the option to migrate to new servers - digital sales are suspended so I don't see many new people activating, therefore it would mostly be rerolls anyways.

Other than the struggle to log in, the game is very fun and enjoyable.  I grew up playing Final Fantasy games, and despite the MMO atmosphere I find myself having a lot of fun following the story and adventuring around.

I skimmed most of this thread, so please excuse my diagnosis of total derp idiocy here.

    1) Yoshi-P and team have not excluded the idea of of an AFK timer or a queue.  They've said that they will review such options after they apply a set of networking changes designed to improve the core problem - server load.  This is taking 100% of their time which is why you see no progress on stop-gap fixes.

    2) The issue with servers are twofold.  The first is the sheer hammering of login requests.  The second is due to how their networked the duty finder.  Today, it is a one stop shop for ALL servers.  They will be changing that to be bound by individual servers which will significantly reduce pressure on that system.  As pressure is released, each server can ratchet up concurrent connections.

    3) A queue and AFK timer will not do ANYTHING for the issues noted in 2.  Most everything draws back to the duty finder.  If they can't make that more efficient all you are doing is bandaiding a problem that will never be solved.  AFK players are not using the duty finder.  That's why 100% of the focus is on increasing the server quantity and re-networking the duty finder.

So please, a huge number of you need to just shut up and wait for the fix.  Your ideas largely won't help the problem.
