I agree. The immersion is insane. I told my wife last night that I would be up in 5 minutes to watch a movie with her. I walk upstairs over an hour later! LOL
Nice.
That's the beauty of being married to a gamer girl, no problem wit that I'll assume, they understand a good game is a good game.

Exactly. She didn't mind at all, she was busy reading meme's.
I really never saw this coming. I had next to zero interest in playing ARR, but I had 14 free days to play because I got 1.0 for $5 on amazon a couple years ago. This game has grown on me like a tumor. I guess it's because I feel it blends an old school vibe with modern day graphics. I like that your hand isn't completely held for some things beyond the basics (like how to enable to dye system, for example). My wife wasn't crazy on wanting to play it either, but after forcing her to play with me for a couple of days, she is now logging in on her own (which she hasn't done since WoW about 4 years ago).
Hopefully by the end of the week, these login issues will just be an annoying memory. But, to me, the fact that I'm still playing (or trying to login anyways) speaks volumes about the quality of the game. I'm actually addicted to it, which hasn't happened to me for a while.
I'm waiting for that initial "oooh new and shiny!!1!" to wear off, so i'm still a bit skeptical, but so far so good.

Are you saying they should look for gaming girls? Think the gaming girls are way outnumbered here.
Confucious say: Gaming man who waits around for gaming girls will spend a lot of time playing with their joystick.

LOL.
Although it can back fire too, i was on a 14 hour session, she had already been to work and back, feed the kids, nothing more than a Hey, Hey, from room to room.
So later she comes by and says must be a real good game, i'm like Oh yEAH!!!
I hear her heading up the stairs and replies with "too bad". i turn around and OMG WHAT THE BEEP AM I DOING??? Damn Girl. Like you want more kids? /jk Just getting the point across. Wooot! Funny i haven't been able to log back in since, yea honey it's just too darn popular, can't log in for a few. lol, ain't lying either.
EDIT to clarify:
That night i promptly logged out of FFXIV:ARR only to realize i was no longer able to log into either, :-( so yeah it can backfire, i guess that was my times up you've had your fun message. lol

Just bout did a spit take on that comment. I am lucky that I have a gamer woman...and we are raising a gamer daughter. So when she goes to bed and I am still playing she's cool with it. I even got her hooked into FF14 and she is not a JRPG fan by any stretch of the imagination.
If you are looking for an old school mmorpg done right...this is the game for you.
If you are looking for some crazy innovative groundbreaking (insert buzzword) type game with no progression, and action ACTION ACTION!!! look elsewhere.
Finally a game for those of us who don't like the current trend of dumbed down, easy access, action-y games in an RPG skin, that are about as deep as a shot glass.
If you are not into progression, reading good quest text, a decent story, if you have to google the word ambience to know what it means, or if you just want the easiest and fastest route to endgame so you can "dominate noobs in pvp" get far...far away from this game.
It reminds me of FF11. Best PvE game ive ever played.
What makes it speciel ?
The universe and the people. I find the lack of barrens chat, amazing.
What will you do when you hit level 50 ?
Level a craft, level another class, it depends what i will want/think of when i am loging into the game. I usually think: "This is what i want to do atm"....or try to group with people in Company.
I don't know, I'm having fun playing through the main story, I just got enough company seals to purchase my Chocobo.
I've also enjoyed leveling up different classes in different city states, and I'm just getting into gathering and then crafting before leveling up yet another class.
LNC 22, CNJ 18, THM 8, PUG 8, MNR 13
I've found healing to be my favorite role in a group thus far, but once I get my Mining up a bit more and farm enough materials I'll be working on getting my Armorsmith and maybe Blacksmith up enough to make enough gear to fully stock myself in 1-15 or so and start leveling up either Marauder or Gladiator or both.
I want to try tanking in this game, but I am a little concerned as I'm playing on PS3 and the targeting is a bit tricky - I've found some tricks though that really, really help - figure out an amazing one for healing that made things 10x easier and more fun.
I know it'd be more efficient to level a single class to 50 and then go back and level other classes due to the armory bonus, but that's not how I'm choosing to play.
I like having cross class skills and my CE helm really helps with a very quick 1-10.
I've got 26 more days of free play time, with the additional free week they are adding maybe it'll be more like 33 - so that'll be plenty of time to figure out if I want to sub for a month or two.
I feel like I MIGHT be able to get a single job to 50 by then at the rate I'm going.
As for targeting... here's a great solution that I recently discovered.
Set your gamepad mode to either Toggle or Mixed in the character configuration. This means that you don't have to hold down L2/R2 in order to activate abilities . By pressing it once, it keeps your abilities active (Toggle mode). If it's on Mixed mode, you have the option of holding it down to use abilities OR keep it active by just pressing it once. Mixed is the best option because it seemlessly combines the default setting with toggle mode.
Ok, once you press L2 or R2 and your abilities are active, If you press R1 or L1, it will cycle through enemies. You don't have to deactivate your abilities to change targets like you have to in default mode. You can have your abilities always on active and be able to switch targets at the same time.
