I have just seen the announcement of the second round of stress testing. However when I try to sign up, I am directed to the File Plant subscription page.
There is NO WAY I AM GOING TO PAY FOR A FILEPLANET SUBSCRIPTION JUST TO BETA DDO!!!
I am sick and tired of these VULTURES pilfering "free" betas, slapping a price tag on them and expecting us to pay, to in essence, perform QA work for the product in question.
FilePlanet, I have two little letters for you... F.U!

First, don't blame Fileplanet. They are a business after all. Blame the company producing the game, for deciding to go with Fileplanet in order to save themselves the cost of distributing the beta client themselves.
I do want to empathize though, because the new banner for the stress test seems to imply even non-paying users would have access, which is not the case.

OK, here is the scoop. You can sign up for the beta with out being a subscriber, but you do need a valid fileplanet login and if you aren't a paid subscriber you can't download the Hi-res client. The tricky part is that fileplanet no longer offers a non-paying sign up for the site. However, all is not lost, they allow an IGN.COM user name for signing into Fileplanet and thus the beta. Just go to IGN.COM and sign up for a free account. The verification email took about 20 minutes before I could then validate the account, but after that the IGN.COM ID allowed me to sign up for the stress test and receive a key, as well as download the standard res client.

Whoever thought up the idea to segregate the market by creating two versions of the client is not keeping their best interests in mind for D&D Online. It's obviously a money-grabbing scheme for Fileplant to get some extra bucks from gullible people who are willing to subscribe, just to obtain the high-res client. In doing so, this will probably hurt D&D Online because it may ruin the impression of the game for the vast majority of people that will opt to download the standard client. It's like a booth at E3 marketing their newest WTFMMORPG in a dazzling... 640x480 with low textures. Utterly ridiculous.
i don't pay.. but i still got a key..
you just have to log-in first
We shall all die in vain.. you decide how!
Also the difference in clients is only textures (with paying getting hi-res ones).
Um...on the page with the subscription options there is a link that says "No Thanks" that allows you to continue without subscribing. Hooked on phonics not work for you?
Open to anyone now with even a free sign up take advantage be quick !!
I got the key and the account, but the client.. does it work?? no. does the second one i dl work? NO!
Anyone that gets an CRC error? and know what the problem is?

What are you downloading with? According to their FAQ (fileplanet/gamespy's) they suggest using IE rather than Firefox (they say it has trouble with larger files). First time, I tried using Firefox and the browser crashed. THen I used a download manager and got it fine.
LOL
My first attempt at downloading (thruu webbrowser) ended after 3 hours with 40% left on client , with FP-downloader I got 380kb & managed to download it in 1,5h.
Actually, unless they changed this, the "No Thanks" just brought you back to the front page, no beta key, no download. First thing I tried and retried while testing ways non-paying subscribers could get a key before posting flawed advice here. You know the saying about "assume"?
For those complaining about non-paying subscribers not having access to the Hi-Res download, it's 2.5 GB. That's a lot of bandwidth to expect Fileplanet to give up for free.
Game companies use Fileplanet because it saves them the money of hosting the files themselves and also provides a distribution system for keys. Even with subscriber only beta events, the keys usually go extremely fast. If you were a paying Fileplanet subscriber wouldn't you expect some perks for you money? In the case of this stress test, it seems that the 2nd time around the demand wasn't as high as the first go (people turned off after the first stress not wanting to wate their time with the second). I'm guessing that's why they opened the beta up to non-subscribers.
Anyone who read this thread had a really good chance to get a key, so I'm not really sure what people are complaining about. The Hi-res may look a little nicer, but you can still help stress test the game and get a taste of what it's all about before buying it.

Ok here's the next "Thank you Turbine, may I have another"...
You can preorder DDO at EBGames and get a beta key... but it's only good for 10 DAYS... now after spending $52 for PCGAMER magazine and not getting a beta key, resubscribing to FilePlanet and playing both stress tests with no beta key and being an avid participant in the DDO forums with no beta key I'm beginning to feel a little used, cheap and dirty.
By the time the game is released I may be out of money...
No bitchers.
