Sitting....I was actually surprised...

Electro057Electro057 Member UncommonPosts: 683

I thought I'd just give the old /sit prompt a try near a chair, and to my surprise it actually sat my ass down. Same for a bed and crates! I unno....It's little details that I notice, like that for instance. It somehow improved game quality for me, because I do tend to write and roleplay a fair bit inbetween raiding. And I do like character progression in the form of character arcs and developing in game hobbies, interests, goals ect...And for the first time in ages the ability to actually sit in the set, rather than the chairs just being untouchable props is kinda cool. Anyways that was nice....

So far no problems since the 27th! I've been playing on a Japanese server but never once lagged, had character creation issues once I gave up on NA servers, or had access problems. Just click and go, never been in a queue or had 1707 yet!

If you're angry, try the Jap servers...They're not as populated and I've yet to have trouble once!

FFXIV is full of amazing little touches like this. Nothing huge on their own but they really add to the immersion.

Have you clicked on a bed in an inn room before logging out for the night yet?

Yeah! The flop down on my Roegadyn is adorable! So much weight behind it! I love it!

In gridania, there was a lady saying that she is so tired or something and then she sat down. I set down next to her, was surprised it worked XD.

If you think that is a good easter egg do this....

Go into character configuration in the options tab and choose the chat options tab where you can change what chat channels are displayed in each tab "log filters", when you click on any of the boxes to choose a channel to set for a tab look in the preview text box, there are tons of quotes from Final Fantasy characters, pretty neat touch indeed.

My favorite is clicking the "tell" tab as it says:

    Cloud Strife: Nice shirt.

Tifa Lockhart: Eyes up here, Cloud.

Also on topic, sitting in chairs IS relevant to MMO's....just sayin'.

It goes beyond chairs.  You'll sit on short ledges (with like bushes or trees in them in cities) and stuff and stuff as well.  It's hard to explain but it's probably the best sit in any mmo yet.

Archeage does it better, you can sit on tree stumps and all kinds of ledges - also you can lay in every bed in Archeage :)

Last I checked we still don't have Archeage... So my statement stands.

You can pretty much gauge how good any particular games animations are by the things they do, or perhaps do not, allow you to do. Surprisingly, there are a great many modern MMO's where the ability to sit down in anything other than a 'generic' squat position regardless of location or available seating, exist. But yes, attention to detail does seem to be one of Square Enix's strong points image

To the OP, I agree! Fluff like this is huge for me. Sure WoW and Lotro did this too, but not enough mmorpgs do this imo, and i am very happy that FF does. The weather system too, pure awesome.

The best log out ever, that was an exceptional touch to an already spectacular game. By far the absolute best mmo in years, literally, years. I feel sad for those whom feel the need to harp on such a glorious mmo.

I imagine mmorpg.com must love mmo's that flop as their traffic sky rockets, mmo's as legendary as this, peeps are too busy having a great time playing than bothering with internet trolls.

I seriously don't even feel the need to defend this game, it speaks volumes for itself. Other publishers take note this is what happens when you let your developers do their thing, leave them alone, let them put their hearts and souls into what they do and not force them to toss something together as fast as possible just to get a slice of wow pie.

I read these negative posts and simply laugh as this really identifies those who have no clue as to what makes an awesome mmo and simply like to troll. Everywhere you go on the net everyone is talking about how amazing this game.

Tried to sit on a chair myself as well and it worked. I figures if in some MMORPGs you can sit on a chair id you're close enough, FFXIV would do it as well, and indeed it did. But hearing that you can sit like this on almost everything... DAMN, that's a very nice feature in the game. I'll certainly try to find some nice spots (sadly no mailboxes to sit upon :p)

Guess the OP had no business posting about a positive little immersion detail. After all, It's been done right?

  • JustsomenoobJustsomenoob Member UncommonPosts: 880

The good thing about FF XIV is that since it's a remake, they've had all this extra time to add some of the things people are commonly asking for after an MMO's release.

Hahaha, I didn't know I was a fanboy because I liked a certain aspect of the game? Especially since I haven't been waiting for this game or anything, or saying it's incredible....

In fact I simply stated I've been having fun in game, which I have....And that this small detail is quite neat to me. Seeing as it hasn't been in many games as of late, in fact the last games that simply let you sit on chairs were WoW and LotR....

And this game damn near lets you sit on anything, and that's sorta cool.

Anyways, thanks for being insulting asshats, it was really nice ^.^

It is. There are many many that you can't even sit at all let alone in a chair.

It actually is amazing in this age of limited action combat toons. Such a small thing and yet it adds another choice to how you interact with the environment. /cheers to FF for this feature.

LOTRO did is very true - there was a bug where you could travel on the chair, your character would remain sitting on the chair but could otherwise move about the game world, a friend of mine travelled from Bree to Rivendell doing this.

Sadly, instead of fixing the bug Turbine just removed the ability to sit on chairs altogether. The best you get now is a groundsit animation on the surface of the chair seat :(

This looked particularly bad in one of the Rohan quests were you had to 'sit' next to a thane or someone, it just looked terrible.

And yes, weather is amazing. I was in one of the La Noscea zones earlier and it was windy. Bushes and trees swayed, leaves and bits of grassed fluttered in the air. It looked fantastic.

Awesome that you can sit in chairs in this game :)

Also, in LOTRO you can still sit in chairs the same way that you used to.  the problem is that when they made Rohan they did not code the chairs there to be functional.  So it still works every where else, or at least it did the last time I checked.

  • KuinnKuinn Member UncommonPosts: 2,072

When I realized I can actually sit on chairs and stuff I immediately dragged the sit emote from the emote list into my hotbar. Gotta sit on where ever I can when I go afk/brb.

Getting a room at the local inn when logging out to get rested xp is awesome too. I actually use the bed as logout button directly. Little things like these help creating the atmosphere, waking at the bed next day when logging in you almost feel like "ready to get some leves done" through your char hehe.

    Still need chat bubbles though.

looks the same to me while ppl expressing any kind of negativity but as always since it is the internet haters are majority or at least it looks that way...sadly there is no middle ground

anyway OP don't take it too hard.y sitting was cool even though it had been done doesn't mean it should be overlooked so y it was cool and i enjoyed it too glad they cared about details.although even if it wasn't done right it is not something worth of bashing imo
