My opinion of them has increased dramatically.

They did something that many companies don't do.  They made good on their promise.  Gotta respect that.

SE has lost a lot of face and honor with me over the past week.  Have been trying to buy a CE copy and about ready to say that they have lost my money.

Will see if I can buy a on-line CE copy from them before 8 Sept.

It's going to be hard for a company to rank lower than Trion.

Unless we include Verizon.. but that's a whole different story.

I started playing Rift well after the first release so I didn't even know they had a rough start. Storm legion expansion from what I can remember was a smooth release. I really like Rift but all the character depth it has kind of goes out the window once you're at the end game since specific builds and rotations are pretty much demanded in end game raids. Losing the build flexibility I had and forcing a build that I didn't like to play made me lose interest in the game.

As for customer support I had a few issues that needed addressed one that I can remember was sending items through the mail to the wrong name. I contacted support and they fixed the situation rather quickly. Oh another was once it was f2p I used my points to purchase an outfit and I must have double clicked it (or something) because I got the same item twice and was charged twice. This took a little longer for support but I got my points back and I was able to keep the extra outfit which was BoA so I just sent it to an alt.

That's because they didn't have a rough start.  Rift's launch was one of the best launches in MMO history.

The guy must of had something personal that happened to him.

I have always respected SE.  Final Fantasy was my second RPG after Dragon Warrior (See the pattern?)  I have always thought their games were top notch.  FF VII was a revelation to me.

They lost some luster with FF XIII and the first attempt at XIV....  Their profits showed it too.  But this has been a fantastic effort from them, minus the horrid server issues they had.  I have gained a little more respect back for them.  Better than where Bioware is at right now....

Unless you were one of the THOUSANDS of people who had their account hacked. Then Trion told 'us' that it was something WE did. We went to some shady web site, or gave our account info out. We didn't. A Trion customer figured out that it was a hole in Trions security.

I lost interest after having been out of the game a couple weeks.. It was a fiasco for me.

SE seems like a company that is somewhat steeped in tradition and still aren't willing to change some parts of their games to accomodate western gaming sensibilities.  But in many ways that's why I liked playing FFXI and hopefully X!V.

My opinion of Square Enix? Two brilliant companies merged and continue to produce subjectively high quality products, and aren't afraid to adhere to some of their classic design philosophies, but are struggling to get into the online space. There's really all there is to it.

    Currently playing - FF14ARR
Previous games - SWG, World of Warcraft, ShadowBane, Warhammer, Age of Conan, Darkfall, Planetside Asheron's Call, Everquest, Everquest 2, Too many.

This seems to be the case at least it's the general feeling i'm getting from reading the replies of this thread.

I remember that!  I think the guy hijacked their server and started posting GM announcements because they weren't responding to the tickets he was sending.  Yeah that incident is where coin lock came from.  Messy stuff.  Awful that happened to you.

Yea, my memory is pretty suspect too. But it happened.

Sorry but fuck SE.. even though it did not really effect me.

The FACT that they locked ALL NA servers to new character creation for nearly a week on relaunch week is fucking illegal.

It's fraud pure and simple I do not give a rat's ass that they are giving a free week, they should be down on their knees for the rest of eternity begging not to be sued out of business for the fraudulent and deceptive business decisions they have made with this RELAUNCH over the past two weeks.

Some of you just do not get how and why consumer protection laws are there, and that they have a lot of juice.

You can NOT sell a product and then not provide REASONABLE access to said product.

You can NOT do it, it is a CRIME..

One thing if the whole system is down, and nobody has access.

Another thing entirely if you selectively block and or restrict access to SOME customers so that other customers can have a positive experience.

The ONLY thing I see they have done right is honoring full refund requests.

I think you may be taking it a bit too far. My experience w/ cellular phones, taxi service and cable TV would say that your definition of  'reasonable' is not the legal one.

I will add that any 'decent' company should honor a REASONABLE request for a refund.

Lol, fraud. First of all, the product was the game and the service is access to the servers. They did the best they can to provide service without crashing their services which would of resulted in a lack of service. And I doubt you have enough lawyer education in you to even understand what you actually agreed to under the terms of service. They actually own all rights to the game and everything within it, a movie theatre reserves the right to kick you out of a movie if you act belligerent enough (kind of like you are in this post), despite you being a paid customer, technically SE can do whatever they want given that there is justification and not outright ripping you off, which they didn't since they worked so hard expanding their worlds by about 50% each and also opened new ones and equally willing to refund you out of a good experience (which I hoped they did).

They didn't try selling you a video game and you ended up with something like shoes, THAT'S fraud. They just didn't foresee an amount of load and did pay dearly for it enough for them to be apologetic and provide free days of service to make up what occurred. That's a sign of good business next to having to communicate to at least 5 different broad populations, something I highly doubt you can do personally yet alone comprehend what type of culture barriers they have to constantly traverse.

They did not whatsoever block a SELECT group, a SELECT group just afk logs into the game and stays in, restricting access for others. I been in the game and also kept out of the game. If it were so select I wouldn't be able to experience both sides. I just hope people like you aren't in my game because this type of attitude is probably not just limited to this MMO launch experience but probably all aspects of your life and I sympathize for you and the lack of understanding you quite so obviously possess.

You know what, sometimes things like this is why we can't have good things anymore. /sigh
Good luck on your accusation, I personally think SE did a better job at than most other companies having to work under less than ideal conditions.

I have dealt with support many times.

The online support are an outside agency,i found that out when asking them questions they seem to avoid the answer.Anyhow online support seems to do VERY little.

MY best option has always been to call them by phone but that is usually at least 20 minutes wait and at long distance charges. However once you get through i have always got a North American clear English speaking support person, what a breathe of fresh air.I absolutely hate when i can't understand the person and i have to say excuse me can you repeat that every sentence.I might add there is the odd chance you get a bit of a dick for phone support but rare,at least yo ucan understand each other when talking.

The phone option is the only way to go,email is also BS ,auto response and long waits that usually dicker you around like all support do with just more questions than answers.Once on the phone be prepared to have all your information and i lol @ then asking a Canadian for a zip code "HELLO" we don't have zip codes here.

My opinion of Square is that they do know what they are doing but are not diligent when dealing with community and support.

As to not getting through,i always had an auto operator put me on hold when i called. So if you get a busy signal i would say they have the lines off he hook to avoid all the calls from FFXIV server issues. However remember their business hours are not NA hours, they open up at around 2 PM EST.That is not a bad time, gives you time after work to call if needed, unlike NA business hours that are always closed by time you get off work.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Curious as to how much people played the game and then asking for a refund.

SE (Square Enix) is a good company not a great company like SS (SquareSoft) was the I saw someone say they've worshipped SE since they we're a youngster............why? They didn't do anything SE came after the Old Guard of Sqauresoft left pretty much after FF9. Since FF9 the game's quality were in decline with the exception to 11, which I felt was a great MMO for its time.

Its been my experience throught FF11 and FF14: SE makes great games but has lackluster customer support.

Everything about their support structure is was bad. just patching was better with a torrent than loggin in... Thank god they fixed their patching issues in AAR.

SE has always been up there with Blizzard for me.  They can and usually do make amazing games that above the quality of their competition.  Now note how I said usually and not always ;).
