Any word on graphic options being opened up for customization?

BearKnightBearKnight Member CommonPosts: 461

Little sister tried playing this week, but her laptop cannot handle all the shadows everywhere, and the massive amount of bump-mapping going on. Yet, for some reason we aren't allowed to disable shadows, one of the most CPU intensive options ever.

Shadows coupled with bump-mapping can have a REAL impact on performance GPU and CPU wise.

Anyone else know what's up with the client being so heavily resource driven? We don't even have hi-res textures yet, and the game will rip your CPU out like a cpu-vampire D: !

Hopefully soon, my older box used to run it fine until the update.

It never ran it like a dream but was totally playable, the latest update i had to drop it to the lowest to make it playable, but just isn't quite as good as before. Playable yes.

I hope he isn't serious, since he does let us set the quality of shadows so low they look like tetris bricks. I can't stand the look of that so I crank them up, even though my old rig would be happy if they would just be set to "off"

Personally I upgrade to a new gaming rig every 3-4 years and always play all games maxed out.

As do I, but I've got a top of the line PC for the market, and can 16box RIFT (an unoptimized mess).

Yet, FF14 can only be 4boxed due to all the CPU intensive crap Yoshi has left in.

Shadows should be able to be disabled.

Bump-Mapping should be able to be disabled.

    View-Distance should be customizable.

    Texture Quality should be customizable.

    Lightning effects should be customizable.

I don't care what Yoshi-P wants, if it impacts performance at the cost of personal interest that's not how you run a game.

That aside, I'm perfectly able to 4-box at 40fps. It just isn't ideal.

My problem comes from my sister's TWO year old Laptop that can't even run the game at lowest settings. That's where I have the problem, and is entirely the reason you allow customization of GFX options.

So you are upset that your "laptop" can not run a graphical intensive game well? Wouldn't that be your fault for trying to use what I imagine isn't a gaming grade "laptop" for serious gaming. They had a benchmark program (2 matter of fact).  My desktop PC was built back before DA2 came out specifically for that game, that was back in 2011. Runs ARR fine even on maximum settings.  So maybe it's not what the game needs to let you turn off. But getting something capable of handling the game. *shrug*

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

It's what the game needs to let you turn off.

The option to disable shadows would open the game up to quite a large audience.     There's absolutely no payoff to not allowing the option, other than pointlessly stopping some people from playing.

For people fiddling with the shadow settings, the game would actually look better with no shadows than with shadows on the lowest quality.   That makes the game look really ridiculous.   Would be good for people with mid quality machines too, that might want to turn them off while doing crowded fates or raids or something

You can turn that stuff off, look on the right and scroll down, i missed it as well.

my bad, your right doesn't seem to completely turn them off. You can significantly lower them though.

Right.  We want to turn them off.

Funny thing is the game would both look better and run better with them turned off, than with shadows set to low which makes it look like you're running through a bunch of black legos.

    Question:

Where are the other two party members?
