graphics settings?

RufftimesRufftimes Member UncommonPosts: 47

I'm running an AMD 1090T with a HD 5970 card. During beta things ran super smooth at max, but now its gone slow, especially in populated areas, FPS down in the low teens. This seems to have gotten worse since the update. The problem is, it doesn't matter what graphic settings I choose, it doesn't make a difference. I even tried fullscreen windowed, as some games aren't crossfire friendly, and it stays the exact same more or less. Any tips?

During beta, I could run the game maxed everything and average 40-60 FPS

I haven't noticed any problem after the patch, I'm still capped a 60FPS unless I'm running around in a town then it drops down to around 40.  You may have just been on the edge of good performance and since the increase in players per server its creating problems for you.

What are you running for a card? Really, a 5970 is still a great card by any standard. However, I did just look at their website and they have a beta driver which claims improved performance in FFXIV. I'll give it a try when I get back home next week. Unfortunately I think there are other issues with my box.....):

Lowest I've gone is around 40frames per second, even with the settings cranked and in the midst of large boss fights and tromping about towns. My only problem is weak internet and a slight bit of lag :/

Have you updated your drivers? Cleaned the card and case? I had one of those cards and they ran stupid hot, even more so than the 580GTX SOC that I have now which isn't great in terms of cooling either.

Very good point here, though I should mention that I'm running on ANCIENT drivers.......And no problems. But it's very important to clean out your case every few months, or to optimize wiring so it doesn't get in the way of airflow. My roommate once had what I could only describe as a thick black octupus tentacle jungle of wires in his case, hell one was even catching the CPU FAN!

i was scratching my head at the recommended settings.  I think this game uses a lot more CPU resources (like Skyrim) than other games.  Either way i am running max settings very smoothly with a i5 3770k and a 2gig 7850 with a mild OC.

I'm still unsure whether the decrease in performance since the update is due to new code that isn't optimized, or whether it's simply from more people being on the servers.

Stress the servers are under make a big difference in FPS.   It's not uncommon for me to be out and about in the world with a fine FPS, then join a duty finder instance and I'm having to press in a direction several times before my character responds and walks that way.
