Homosexuality and FFIV: or am I just imagining? (maybe spoiler)

So I did this sidequest at the south part of Lower La Noscea and there was this guy at the southwest sort of confessing his love for someone at the docks at the southeast. I didn't pay much attention to it, until I realized that the "someone" looked like either a tomboy or a metrosexual male.
The sidequest is somewhere between lv10-15.
Did anyone else notice this? Perhaps I just missjudged the looks of the "female"? Or did SquareEnix take a stand for homosexuality?

If this is in fact true, I would no more categorize them as taking a "stand for," as I would them simply depicting a reality of life.
