PUG Instances galore

time007time007 Member UncommonPosts: 1,062

well I dinged 50 about a week or so ago.  My guild hasn't caught up so I've been doing PUG instances and man they fail 4 out of 5 times.  Here is why:

People rage quit after 1-2 deaths

People can't dodge and wipe the group, then ragequit

Healers pop the limit break either before or during a boss AOE

Well anyways, I think all raids are instanced in FFXIV, and I think we should go back to having some old school raids where its like open world pve type stuff.  (for example, and I said for example so I don't want to hear "why don't you go back to blah blah blah".  In daoc we had dragon raids or dungeon raids where people can just come along).  It sucks queuing only to end up with a fail group.  I'd rather we just all get aboard and try to take down a level 80 dragon in an open area pve.

Or maybe have the option in addition to the plethora of instanced dungeons.  Are the days of open area boss raids done for?  YES I KNOW that once I get a steady group of 3-7 other guys I can do the instances etc, but its quite lame now doing PUGS since a lot of ppl are still leveling.  BUT, its too bad the days of having raids where people are 45-50 can play together and do a level 70-80 boss might be over or on the way out.  I mean if you are 45-49 you can still help and contribute so its not useless to come along.  But these days every MMO mostly use instanced raids.

Any games coming out on the market with open area boss raids? (not lame easy kill dynamic content bosses)  I mean high level stuff 50-100 people attacking him type stuff. (I know guild wars has this but I've found these to be kind of dynamic content stay in one place related.  not necessarily like travel through mountains fighting monsters in an open area to get to the uber dragon.  I mean cmon, getting to the big boss is part of the journey.

only still level 24, but the 4 dungeons/instances I did using the duty-finder went very smooth. only about 15 min. Waiting (dps archer), and a group that knew what they were doing. the only bad experience was when I got asked in chat to join.... Chaotic, running around without knowing what to do with their toons. So my conclusion: duty-finder works perfectly fine, but sometimes, like in all the MMORPG's I played, you can have a missmatch. That's part of the game when pugging.

Yeah, some of my FC people are in the same boat.    Square Enix in FFXI used to make some really tough battlefields, one mistake and your toast.   It has carried over to FFXIV, you have to be on the top of your game and all the people you play with also.    I really hate to say it , but you should really wait until your guildies who you can run with nonstop can get to your level because these dungeons are very challenging and require great teamwork.

This is where linkshells are handy they make it so you don't have to leave your guild to find some good people to play with just find a good bossing/dunging linkshell and you will be good to go.

This is what I love about FF14.  Its hard !

I ran Haukk manor last night for the first time. Our Duty Finder group ( strangers ) wiped about five times before we beat the last boss. Only one player ever did it before.............It was fun !!!!!

Playing a healer I was told one of my jobs were to use  Repose abilitie on any un-targeted monster.  I just got this abilitie a few levels before.  So I learned something.  Now I'll use it for all my groups, because if I don't have much time for fighting I could use crowed control :)......This is way better than casting a weak damage shot every so often that would not really help much.

    This Game makes you think.

    This game makes you study.

Every Dungeon has a few tricks that could make it easy or hard. It helps to know what they are.

The way I see it, open world PvE and everything you do is to prep you for group content.  And if you don't like it go back to World of Warcraft and run your 10 min dungeons.

I have never been a big FF fan but I admit I am interested now. I love a hard game. I really enjoy AoC raids and 6 mans for this reason. Now I may have to give it look.

The dungeons are really easy till the lvl 32 one don't even remember the name but the bosses deal a bit of damage and really need to stay on top of mechanics.  All the dungeons before this was easy no death barely trying to tank.

We all can only be who we are Nothing more nothing less.

Go for Tera. It has nexus, hundred people running around with 5FPS. You run around the map following zerg and kill few bosses with many minions, and then if you have a raid group you enter a 20 player dungeon and zerg bigger boss. Since so many people take part, the chances that you get focused by anything at all are almost zero, you just need to avoid aoe, basically stand there and do nothing to finish it. If you decide to be active you still do little, see nothing and just try to keep up following all those people around the map. Yeah, open world raids are soo much fun...

I think the biggest problem is there's a lot of people who are either new to mmos or are used to the cake dungeons in wow. While ff14 isn't super hard you do need everyone in the group to be awake and know their roll in the party. I just did the manor for bathe first time this morning and it was the smoothest dungeon run I've had yet because I was luck enough to get a really good group. Just give it a few more weeks and people will start learning their roll and the fights and the runs will smooth out quite a bit

I dunno.  I've never really tanked.  I TRIED to with my Druid in WoW but used to get groups that wouldn't show me how to do so properly (so I gave up).  I'm always a Priest/WHM/Chloro/Healer type.  This game I chose to tank for a bit to learn the mechanics.  While I like it, I'm switching as soon as I get my Gld to 20 (want my mount).  Haven't decided which way I'm going only that I don't care for tanking.

That being said, I like the instances so far.  Each one gets perceptively harder.  Just a wee bit.  That last run on Copperbell is the best example.  Those dudes just keep churning.  Especially if you're unfamiliar with a fight, that got insane FAST.

Experienced, veteran, and hardcore raiders will find no new challenge in this game. The encounters and mechanics are the very simple "stay out of fire" telegraphs for the most part. You could tank Titan hardmode and eat a sandwich with your free hand.

The normal dungeons and trials are not hard in this game. They are just a step above trivial, and a step below challenging.

What makes them feel hard on occasion is the fact that you are 100% dependant on everyone having situational awareness, and passing the checks on that, which occur in every boss fight past a certain level. - So really what A realm reborn has perfected, is the (sometimes) nuisance which is other people, in my mmo :) - and they certainly buff the difficulty on a lot of dungeon runs.
